Hi, Susanna, and welcome! I'm so glad you found us and joined in! We have wonderful members that love to help one another and really care about each other, too.
Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good information about fibro and you can learn a lot there.
I use ibuprofen with food, extra strength tylenol, malic acid/magnesium supplements, and vitamin D3 to help with pain and fatigue. There are links in the Fibro 101 thread about malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D3 and how they work in your body. I did have good results with these. I don't take the other meds, either. I can't afford to gain weight and I don't like some of the side affects of these things.
Exercise, though, is very important. If you sit or lay too long, you will be stiff as a board. There are some gentle exercises in Fibro 101 that really do help and you should find a gentle exercise that you can do. Walking is my form of exercise. I also swim and that is great if you have access to a pool. I find that when I keep moving my pain is less and it helps keep the muscles flexible. You should pace yourself, too. You can't do the same things in the same time frame as you did before fibro. But, it all will get done. I do that with cleaning the house. I don't clean the whole house in one day. But, my house is still clean...sort of!
Moist heat is great, too. Hot showers and baths feel heavenly. You can get a Bed Buddy at Walgreen's and other places or make your own by taking a tube sock, filling it 2/3's full of long grain rice and tying a knot at the end. Pop it in the microwave and it gives off moist heat and it feels great on those muscles.
Susanna, don't be scared. I have had fibro for 22 years and have had a full and enjoyable life so far. You will learn how to work around fibromyalgia to do the things you really want to do. We can help with ideas for you. Also, keep a positive outlook. It really, really does help a lot. A good sense of humor is great for the fibro fog, too! So, we will help you.
Meanwhile, read back posts, too. There is a world of information in them. Also, don't hesitate to ask questions. We are here to help you. I hope to hear more from you soon.
