   confused   So is nuerontin good or bad to take. Im on 1500mg daily --- 1200 at bed and 300 before i go to work. Im also on Trazadone 75mg and 10mg flexril  .   I just started a new sign of FM which was the chest pain. It hurt so bad i went to the Er wasnt sure if it was my heart or not, Well thank god it wasnt my heart, it was the muscle walls of my rib cage were swollen they had a name for it Costochondritis . That was scary. Is this FM just going to get worse. I have my good and bad days. I get really mad that i have this. I wish it would just leave me alone......SORRY

I'm so sorry your pain is bad enough to send you to the ER! But first things first! You have joined a wonderful Fibro Family and one thing we never do is apologize for being down, angry, venting, whining or just complaining. It's why we are here for each other. So no need for "SORRY"...OK? We're just glad you found us.

Many people with Fibro also have Costochondritis...or Costo as many refer to it. It is inflammation in the ligaments that hold the ribs to the breast bone (sternum). I'm very fortunate that I don't have it...I have plenty of other "issues" ...seems we all have more than our share. For those who aren't familiar with Costo's association with fibro, here's a short excerpt from the Mayo Clinic...

"Chronic costochondritis is a common symptom of fibromyalgia, a rheumatic syndrome characterized by wide spread muscle pain. Sixty to Seventy percent of all fibromyalgia patients experience costochondritis at some point during their lives. Patients with fibromyalgia may have bouts of costochondritis lasting indefinitely throughout their lives. Chest pain can vary from a dull gnawing sensation affecting most of the rib cage to sharp pains near the upper sternum often on the left side. Ribs will usually feel sore to the touch. It is believed that repetitive activities including sitting at a desk or computer can exacerbate the condition."

Is your fibro going to get worse? Well, if we all believe the literature out there, and good sources too, we would believe not. But experience among those with fibro tells a different story. Most every person on the forum who has commented on this topic says their fibro has definitely gotten worse over time. Many have said they are frightened what life will be like in 5,10 or more years. Some have commented about what life would be like when they are 40!! or even 50 or more!! Well, I'm in the "or more" category and I am living a good life with fibro. Yes, life is different and I personally take medications to help with my pain, but I'm sure not going to let it stop me from living a full life and enjoying every moment of it!!

There may be a reason for concern about fibro getting worse but it certainly won't do us any good to worry. And those of us who are hopeful that better treatment will come are optimistic that one day a cure may be found. It would even be nice to know why this happens.

On a lighter note, we have what we call our Koffee Klatch every day. You might have seen the titles of the posts. It's a small time each day when we chat about anything BUT the 'P' word (pain) ssshhh...lol We are the same people inside as we've always been, except now we have a battle to fight along our way. We still need to laugh, love our families, go camping, stroll a sunny beach or attend a concert or whatever passions you have. We often have to do things a bit differently or delay some things but we WILL have good lives and the people here are proof of that.

So, take my hand <extending hand> and let's head down this road together. We will enjoy the trip and have fun along the way.

      welcome to the forum. you will find alot of advice and support here. I hope you will also have some fun.

      I have had pain in my chest area as well. sometimes sharp pains, but mostly dull aching in my rib area. It feels like my ribs are bruised. When it first started I was scared to death. Ithought it must be my heart or lungs, but now I know it is like many of my other symptoms, it won't kill me, but it very uncomfortable. I hope you can find some relief soon. Hang in there you are not alone, and anytime you want to complain just come here we will be here to listen and support you.

Hi Ladywyzord,

    about the Neurontin- mostly it is good.  By good I mean that I haven't had any bad experiences with it, only good or neutral.  For me, I was on 1800mg a day, and it dulled the pain but didn't make it go away.  And I built up a tolerance to it rather quickly so its effectiveness wore off for me.  I started on 300mgs a day and within 2 months I was up to 1800mg and it wasn't working on the pain too well.  But I have always built up tolerances really quickly to most meds so I am not sure that I am average.  All in all it wasn't a bad experience just didn't work for me.

I can't tell you whether it is good or bad...I'm on a very low dosage...300 twice daily but it seems to work for me

I have been taking 900mg at night since February, and have just bumped up to 1200-1500 with an extra capsule at night and one in the morning. I was without it for a few days over a 3-day holiday weekend when my prescription expired, and definitely noticed the difference. When I started taking it back in Feb. it was like the angels had descended and lifted my pain away. But then someone brought it back a few weeks later! It has evened out to a point where I, for the most part, can deal with it on a daily basis, adding Tylenol to my other meds. It is definitely a good thing for me.
