Hello, I am new to these forums and somewhat new to fibro.  I haven't been officially diagnosed yet, but I am a health care professional and my brother has fibro.  I am absolutely positive that this is what is wrong with me.  I have had low-level problems for many years but recently have had two tremendously stressful events in my life and I am experiencing crazy symptoms I have never had.  Additionally, I am having  familar symptoms, just amped way up.  It seems I am experiencing the majority of the problems listed in the post "Fibro 101". Forgive me if I am not writing well.  I work 12.5 hour shifts and I am just dragging, trying not to cry....  I want to find out if anyone the name of a good specialist in fibro in my city of Portland, Oregon?  I understand that it is the rhuematiod specialists that usually treat fibro, I want to find one that has further expertise or professional interest in fibro.  I am so glad to have found these forums.  I don't feel so crazy and alone.  I live 2000 miles from my brother who also suffers this same disease and we don't speak very often.

Welcome to the forum and to the Portland area.  I live in sw washington myself and was diagnosed with fibro at OHSU Oregon Health Science University in Portland.  I would say it is a great place to start since they have been researching fibro for over 30 years.  It is the home of Dr. Robert Bennett who has written extensively on fibro and done much research.  I don't beleive he is there anymore, I think he retired.  But the rhemys there should be able to dx you with no problem.

Hi, MoeZy and welcome!  Look in the Fibro 101 thread.  There is a link about finding a doctor that believes in fibromyalgia.  There are quite a few in Oregon and I did see one from Portland.  Be sure to check out that link. 

 

Let us know what you find out.  We really do care.  It is so difficult not knowing for sure.  Don't hesitate to ask questions here.  We are here to help you.

I am so relieved at such a warm welcome. Thank you. I feel very fragile and emotional right now as well as physically sick. That is very good advice, Jeannie 143, as I seem to get very overwhelmed thinking too much into the future at this point. I can easily start "tripping out" on all kinds of things, namely how I am going to be able to stand living with these things that are happening to me. It is so difficult to just get out of bed. I want to tell everyone around me just how much I am suffering, but I don't think that is appropriate. Like everything in life, I am sure an optimistic approach is going to be the most saving grace. I am a firm believer in the mind/body connection and that the state of the body is very much influenced by the mind. So, optimism helps here as well. It is just so d**n hard sometimes to be positive! The worst part is, my husband is going through some horribly difficult times as well. He had a huge face/neck surgery for a rare cancer. His face was reconstructed with bone/tissue from his leg. I know this "flare" is a direct result of all this stress. I cannot rely on him so much right now, he needs me! I am putting off on him and I feel guilty for doing so as he has his own pain to deal with. Thanks for letting me vent here. I am very grateful for your support.

Hi moezy, Welcome to the forum! I am so sorry you are hurting, flares are painful!!!

You are under a lot of stress right now. Your husband just got through a difficult cancer
surgery. Hope his recovery goes well.

It is understandably an emotional time for you. As you already know the stress does not help
you. Try to take some time for yourself during the day. I too am a firm believer of the mind
body connection. I do relaxation therapy by doing deep breathing exercises, taking long
soaks in a hot bath and getting in a daily walk. If I don't get some exercise I become more
stiff and achy and my pain level goes up. At times, I feel like a coach talking to my body
parts. Each day, even when I am really hurting my goal is to have the best day possible

Coming to this forum has helped me cope with my illnesses, everyone is loving, caring
and supportive. We truly understand pain because we live it and help eachother through
the rough times.

I am glad you have found us and are a part of our forum family and like Jeannie said
"One day at a time...We will help all we can."
