Hello,

I am new and looking for as much info on my chronic pain with fibro.

 

I am not able to take ultram, tramdol, it causes vommiting and very painful stomach spasms.

After my second visit to the ER, I was given percocet for pain and have used them sparingly, it is the only thing that reduces pain, to where it is tolerable and I can sleep. Only taking 1/2 dose.  When I do not take gabapentin and acid reducer the stomaach spasms return, but the body aches are still present unless I take the percocet, it helps some.

Anyone who can offer suggestions to what else I can take to help with pain reduction, and to aid in sleep.

I am taking clonazapan for anxiety and adavan for sleep, although they don't always help.

As crazy as it sounds, I have found that stretching is best (at least for me). Maybe talk to your doctor about some physical therapy or aquatic therapy. If the percocet helps, perhaps take on a set schedule to help regulate the pain? I'm still pretty new at this myself, so I'm not sure if my thoughts are going to be of any help to you. I do hope you find some relief soon though!

Thank you for your response, I do do stretching, and you are right it does help some. I have been told pain clinic by doctors and PT, swimming but I am not able to afford it right now. My knees are bad from a fall when I broke my leg and I have damaged ACL's I did fall once while walk because my knee gave out sooooooo kinda afraid to walk bt myself, but I am gonna try again.

Gentle stretching helps me too. I heard swimming works better than walking, but it is too cold here to swim. I found that I do feel better since I have been walking 10 minutes every day. I know! ten minutes? that is hardly any walking at all, but it helps. Opoids don't seem to help much, but if I keep the mobic in my system, that does help some. We can never get out pain all the way gone, but we can get it to bearable. Now if my pain is down to a 2, I consider that "gone."

Hi, November, and welcome!  Yes, stretching and walking are very good.  If you have access to an indoor pool in the winter, like a YMCA, that would be good.  Swimming or just walking around in the water and moving your arms around would be quite beneficial.  It's good for the muscles and easy on the joints.

 

I use malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D3 to help with pain and fatigue, too.  Many with fibromyalgia are deficient in these vitamins and nutrients.

 

Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibro, including links all about malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D.  You will learn a lot and this could help you, too.

Thanks for the suggetions. I do the vitiman D but I will try the malic acid/mag.

I am 58 divorced and on SSD, from chronic depression or maybe Bi-polar. I don't not have much money so I have to do this on my own no Y, walking really hurts my hips and I was told by Doctor, it is muscle spams, and I have to stop and rest. We have winter weather here, it is icy, I fell two years ago and broke my leg, and have two damaged ACL's and my one knee gives out and I fall down, got be careful.

I really recommend water aerobics. But if you don't have access to a heated pool.... Some gyms and YMCAs give reduced-fee memberships for people with low incomes. I have been doing water therapy for almost two years now, and my balance/energy/pain levels have GREATLY improved.

As far as sleep goes, I take Rozerem. It is the ONLY sleep med I have found which works for me with no side-effects. It is unfortunately expensive and rarely covered by insurance plans.

I hope you find a solution soon and feel better.

i feel for you november...........im 33 and oxycodone is the only thing that will help me with my pain as well......but stretching in the morning is the only way i can get out of bed....i say morning but in reality its usually about noon before i can truly get going....and i definatly feel your pain as far as money being tight.....i have two small children and no income what so ever....as with everyone else you are in my prayers.......best wishes john

November, I mean that if I remember to take it every day, then it helps. I do not know how it works, but it seems that I need to take it a few days before I feel relief. If I forget for a couple of days (fibro fog), then I start to hurt more again. For all I know, this may be all in my imagination!

Stress makes the pain worse. Sometimes this can be a vicious cycle: pain causes stress, which causes pain, etc. Stress management is important. I have not been handling stressful situations well lately. I need to listen to my own advice!
