Daily Exercise Check-In (1-24 & 1-25)

I thought this would be a good idea, to have a daily thread for folks to check in with what they did for exercise that day. With having Fibro we need to be sure to get in some activity to be sure we don't get stiff & even more sore. Even if you haven't done anything, still check in. Everybody has an off day here & there. Let's encourage eachother to keep moving. Since it's late late late Sunday evening I'll make this thread good for 2 days, Sunday & Monday. So, you can include any exercise you did for either day. Then, we'll do a daily check-in after that. Sound good ?

Today I did a DVD (I usually use DVDs) by Petra Kolber called Bootcamp Boogie. (I didn't do all the impact, I kept it lower) & then the stretch segment off of a Kathy Smith DVD that came with a kit from Rejuvenation Rehab. It comes with this really great stretch strap. I have yoga straps, but this is a little different with loops that you can put around your feet or wrists. That stretch workout is great for my costochondritis. It really opens up the chest.

So, cardio was a little under an hour, and stretch was 15 minutes. (well, 20 if you count the stretch segment at the end of Bootcamp Boogie)

um ... i woke up and got out of bed. does that count? it made me sweat a little. LOL.

really ... this is a new concept for me. i used to work out all the time and haven't since the FM started. I used to lift weights competitively ... now I can hardly wash my hair sometimes.  I have managed to lose 7 pounds in the last month ... but I think it's mostly because I'm too tired to go to the grocery store.  lol

if i did an hour of cardio i think i would die. the thought of anything that says "bootcamp" in it kinda makes me want to hide in bed with the covers over my head.

you are TOUGH!!! I'm inspired. My family got a Wii for Christmas .... it has a Fit Plus game with it. Maybe my first exercise should be opening that balance board box and reading the directions! (Does Wii Fit count? It's got yoga.)

well, the only thing bootcamp about that DVD is the clothing ! LOL It's just a mix of interval hi-lo cardio, it's not that tough. I used to lift weights too & miss it.

I'd say any kind of movement counts, even if it's only 10-15 minutes of stretching or yoga. Just get up & move, it really does help the pain. It's the only way I've survived the last several years. I notice when I sit still I get stiff & sore.

I lifted weights right up until this last year, around September I had to stop. I wish I could use my lovely barbell & awesomely cool dumbbells. *sigh*

Hi Fitlissa,

I think you may have a great idea here. I was a major tennis player my entire life until Fibro came along and made that part of life impossible. NOW hope is eternal with me that I will play again. Right now helping young people learn the basics is a great thing.

BUT the daily thing is hard for me and this may help. I do walk as I have a standard poodle that says "let's go". He gets me out and is so young I have to.

I have begun to chart what I do and what I eat on a daily basis. This is helping me realize the little changes I can make and will.

As for boot camp that is just a scary name. I was involved in a real fitness boot camp a few years back and it nearly killed me. As a matter of fact I highly suspect it did some damage to me. Another story.

So for today I will report back this eve as to what I accomplished.

I know space is an issue on the forum but perhaps there is room for this.

I just wanted to say that this is a wonderful thread. I try to walk daily, I know it isn't much, but it helps me.

Keep up the good work. I am really proud of you. Like you say, keep moving!

I worked out on Saturday: 35 minutes on bike, and then 45 minutes doing deep water aerobic in the pool

Sunday: laundry (lots of carrying up and down stairs)

Today is a day off workout. Tomorrow I plan to go to Yoga, then do the elliptical and the pool.

I started back at using my hand weights and resistance bands. I'm careful not to overdo.
My osteoporosis is now in the severe category and I'm at a risk of fracture. I do try to get my
daily walk in and somedays I'm able to walk 2 miles and other days a couple of blocks.
Exercise does make me feel more energetic on most days and I believe it does a body good.

Wow, Robin. (((huggles))) Resistance training is supposed to be good for osteoporosis, but I don't know how it affects a person once it's severe. Does your Dr. have you on a regimen of weight/resistance training at all ? Be careful.

I'm glad folks like this thread. I think being active is not only good for the body, but it can help take your focus on something else for a while which is good mentally & emotionally as well.

I walk every day for at least a mile and am very active in the house.  I do not sit for long periods of time since it makes me hurt more.  I'm always doing stretching exercises too but I too have osteoporosis so I am more careful now.  I sure don't want to break any bones. 

 

I do use Leslie Sansone DVD's ...the easy ones...when I can't get out and walk.  I use the walking in place ones and they use a little aerobics in them too.

Hi Lissa,

Did my walk as usual but increased the distance by a third:). Also got on my big exercise ball and did a good w/o. They are just wonderful b/c no stress on the joints. Having read your post made me push a little harder.

Something those of us that have been big into sports and exercise have to be proud of are the little steps we take to improve. At first I was very hard on myself but now am so very grateful for what I do accomplish. See we can still be learning!

I will follow the post and see if we get a following that report what they do and offer new ideas.

My pool is my best exercise but right now even the pool heater is struggling to keep up with the iffy Florida temps. But when I can swim it is the best...

Sherrine, I love Leslie Sansone ! Over at VF (videofitness.com) we call her new studio the bat cave, though. LOL It seems all of her new releases are in that bat cave of a studio. Still, I love alot of her workouts. Her new Pilates walk is good & so is the Walk & Box available in a kit at Target with the gloves. It's not the same as Walk & Kick.

I'm getting ready to hop off of here & walk on my treadmill for 30 minutes before getting dinner & heading off to work tonight.

ETA : Got my workout in. Walked the 30 minutes & stretched a bit. Since I wanted a super quick dinner it was just maccaroni & cheese from a box (bad, I know, but quick) & green beans. Just chillin' out online for a bit while my phone is charging, watching a movie, and then off to work in an hour. Have a good night, everyone !

i exercise for 3 hours everyday 7 days a week 30mins of gentle steching exercise and 2 hours ish of walking everyday i started at 10mins everyday and i build it up slowly i started in 2006 and love it¬¬ turn

I'm at work right now. I have 30 minutes until I need to start setting out breakfast for the hotel guests. I just worked an hour & a half at carrying laundry down the hallway to the downstairs housekeeping closet, and upstairs (no elevator) to fill the upstairs housekeeping closet. I'm not a cleaning lady, but our floors looked pretty bad (snowstorm & rock salt coming in on people's shoes) so I went ahead & mopped floors in the downstairs area of the hotel & breakfast room. I just delivered receipts to everybody's rooms, both upstairs & downstairs. (we do express checkouts at the Front Desk here) I am beat. I still have to stock the breakfast room, though, and that's about an hour of physically carrying stuff in there.

I'll go ahead & get a new check-in started since technically it's now Tuesday, 1-26.
