Was this a flare???

Hi, I normally post on the chronic pain forum but have recently added fibro and polymyalgia rheumatica to my list of diagnosis. 

Recently I had a procedure called radio frequency ablation done on my lumbar spine.  The day after the procedure my body went crazy on me.  I felt feverish with chills in the morning so I went straight to bed after taking tylenol.  After a long nap the tylenol wore off and the fever went up to 102.2 and I felt really bad.  I got up, took more tylenol & called the doctors office.  I explained to them that the area of the injection looked good with no swelling or redness.  They told me to continue the tylenol and let them know if there was any signs of infection to the site. That night the fever broke and the next day I felt weak and tired but everything went back to normal in a couple of days. 

My question is, does fibro cause a reaction like this after the body has been through something like this or other types of things that cause alot of stress or trama?  Maybe it was the PMR that flared too because they talk about stress causing flares with this condition also.

Could the fever, etc have been caused by an allergic reaction to the the injection for the procedure?  Just a thought.

Thanks Yo-Yo, Sew & Kim for your input. Not an allergic reaction because there was nothing injected. The procedure is where they place a needle by the nerve then heat it to deaden the nerve. I got shingles the last time I had an injection with steroids and am now scared to have injected steroids close to a nerve. Shingles were awfully painful.

I hadn't been dx'd with fibro or PMR before the procedure so thanks for the heads up Sew on any future procedures. The PMR symptoms were just barely showing there heads before the procedure but afterwards came the high fever then full blown PMR symptoms. I knew something new was going on and got to searching the web for answers and came across PMR and I pretty much fit the mold and brought it up to my PM doctor. He dx'd me and started me on a prednisone pack with a quick taper and the symptoms were coming back fast so I made an appt with a Rheumatologist for a second opinion and I also wanted someone experienced with prednisone dispensing since my PM doc didn't seem to knowledgeable with PMR. Yes, the 15mg prednisone daily has helped alot with the symptoms, the rheumy also started me on methotrexate once weekly along with folic acid daily.

I just thought that maybe the procedure caused a fibro flare but it looks like it was a flare from PMR. I was in a very bad way before starting the steroids.

Hi bsj, I had a surgical operation done and after, sounds like the same thing happened. I got a fever that peaked at 102.7 with no sign of infection at the surgical sight. I also felt realy emotionaly unbalanced too. I still have no answers to why this happened, but found it interesting to read that you went through this experiance too
