Neighbors who burn stuff - what's your pet peeve?

I live out in the country. It is legal to burn stuff here. However, it irks the daylights out of me that just when it cools off enough that a person can open the windows to air out the house, some neighbor will burn something stinky and the scent wafts into my open windows. Like many of you, I'm uber sensitive to smells/scents. This burnt stuff just kills me. Most of the time, it smells like they're burning garbage. Sometimes it smells like wood from a fireplace. Either way, there are days when I dream of a law being passed to forbid any sort of burning anywhere at anytime! (Unrealistic, I know, but geez I hate having to breathe that and the way it ruins the indoor air quality. )


Is there something you'd wish the rest of the world would stop doing?

I wish people would take care of their animals.  We have leash laws for dogs and cats where I live and people ignore them.  The cats create more cats and they also spray around my home and then my male, neutered, strictly house cat sprays in my house to mark his territory!  It's not his fault.  He's just doing what comes naturally.  My neighbor's cat was run over and died and they got another one and let it run loose. 

 

I've also been "charged" by large dogs off leashes while walking my little dog.  Animal services just give warnings.

 

So, that's my biggest gripe.

Oh, wow, Sherrine. I see what you mean. I just found this online info about keeping stray cats out of your yard. Some of the ideas are pretty good. Maybe this will help?

That has to be scary with those dogs charging. My b/f always tells me never to go walking without a hiking stick at least. It helps if any of those chargers would get bolder. I seriously sympathize.

Our neighbors have huge bonfires.  Not long ago they were burning and it smelled like clothes or rags or something.  The next morning, our truck was covered with ashes.  So we had to take it to the carwash.  They have burned since then, but the wind was blowing it away from us.  I hate when you can't even open your own windows because of smoke, dogs barking and people partying.  But it does happen.  It isn't as bad as it use to be though.  One of the neighbors moved that partyed all the time, but the ones with the barking dog moved in.  This dog barks continously all day.  We called animal control and they gave them a warning I guess.  and made them get liscences for all of their dogs.  I was happy about that.  Now the dog doesn't bark much.  They have three of them and don't take very good care of them.  They aren't abusive though, just kind of neglegent.  OH well...

My pet peeve would have to be people who abuse their animals or kids. I almost had a lady attack me in a video store because I was glaring at her for talking so meanly to her kids.

I get upset when I see mothers at the park pushing their babies in the swings talking
on cell phones. Why aren't they interacting with their child? I get more upset when I
see a mother ignoring her child when the kid is looking for a compliment and the mom
doesn't seem to care. People who don't take care of their pets are on my list too!!!

People standing in grocery lines, walking down the side walk, eating in restaurants etc texting/talking on their cell phones.  I cannot tell you how many people I have run into after they stop dead in their tracks to answer the stupid phone.  Get a life already.

I dislike when I take my kids to the playground and parents let their kids go wild. I treat all kids like my own and I do correct other's children. My kids get so upset with me when I do that. A few weeks ago a 6/7 year old child was taking the Lord's name in vain, I just about had a cow but told myself he learned that somewhere.

It makes me sad to see how parents are raising children these days......there are good ones out there but OH HERE IS ANOTHER ONE...........

Young children playing in the street by themselves or a 5 year old walking with a 2 year old.......geesh

Abuse and Neglect of children (And Animals). They are the world. I wish I could take away every sick child's pain that clearly are fighting for their lives and have their dreams come true. It heart broke me going to my radiation treatment and seeing a child with no hair, looking sick. I understood what they are going through, so I would talk to them. It just broke my heart. Children shouldn't have to fight for their lives from cancer, heart disease, etc. I also have this weird pet peeve of communication, especially from people in the medical field like doctors. Now that is probably from working in health care, I just hate the idea of being over medicated, needless treatments etc.

As far as my next door neighbors it would be not mowing the yard and collecting junk in their yard.

One of my biggies is reckless/careless drivers who endanger the lives of others around them.

I know most people probably feel the same way, but the drivers in my town have to be the absolute worst anywhere: passing on double yellow lines, tailgating, speeding, running red lights. If they want to risk their own lives, fine, but I wish they wouldn't risk the lives of everyone else around them just to arrive somewhere 2 minutes earlier.

Omg I never thought of listing that Fan. Yes, there are too many stupid drivers out there. Sorry, no offense you guys. 2 years ago, I had the oppurtunity to feel like how it was to be litterly "hit by a car". Now, I tell people I was hit by a car and they go "I hope you were wearing your seatbelt." and I respond "No, I was litterly hit by a car when I was crossing in a crosswalk with my light." I didn't have the heart to press charges, but I am in process of sueing for medical expenses. I told my lawyer I didn't want money, I just want the dang medical covered. Felt bad, the guy who hit me was 81 years old and admitted to the cop he was watching the traffic going straight instead of to the right where he was turning. It was the fact he was taking a turn on why I didn't get more injured

I absolutely hate animal & child abusers!!

Also the butt heads that dump their preggo cats at the end of my dead end street, my house is last.  My wonderful neighbor homes the babies after they are vetted and spays / neuters the adults.  I have one that lives in the barn, he doesn't like the house or the dogs but he loves having the barn to himself.  I keep his shots UTD and feed him well, he goes to Pattie's and taps on her window when it is real cold, Patty got stuck with about 12 adults and Bubba (my barn cat) is comfy there.
