Question about Pain

Yep! It can come on like a hammer blow from all directions. And the only thing that works, AND I tolerate, is regular tramadol, which takes an hour and a half to help.

Then some days, usually after the AM tramadol and a couple of cups of coffee, the pain can be not gone, but tolerable, without meds for the whole day. On bad days I really NEED a second pill at noon. I'm still trying to find something I can tolerate to help with sleep.

For me the fibro brings on mostly muscle pain. Arthritis in my spine and injuries bring on back, bone and joint pain.

It does make a difference what form a medication is in. I tolerate instant release (the usual kind) tramadol tablets with only tinnitus. The extended release gives me horrible headache and brings on serotonin syndrome if I take almost anything the same day even 10 hours later. I can't take most liquids because they usually have preservatives, but tablets are OK. Most just don't mix with tramadol.

Austen, yes, I do have that happen to me...especially if I haven't been good about taking my meds.  Also, heat and humidity do this to me and storms.  Summer is my worst time for fibro so this could be what is happening to you. 

 

I have to take more meds in the summer and keep things at bay.  Sometimes I don't feel like I need to take the medication OR I forget to take it and several hours later I feel like I've been hit by a Mac truck.  So, I'm usually really good at remembering my pain meds during the summer.

So sorry you're hurting so badly! It seems to me that when I hurt all over, I have really overdone things. When I over-do, I really pay for it, and I have to really be good to myself, as the others can attest to. I especially like Crazykitty's suggestion for eating chocolate !! But seriously, be gentle with yourself, and take your meds like Sherrine suggested. I'm not a know it all by any means, I learn things from the kind people here every day. Hope this helps you. Hugs.

Yep... me too.. my symptoms are horrible fatigue and all over body aches and horrible bone pain in my joints and oh, let's not forget the back. It all pretty much just sucks. It's leveled out with medication to a semi-tollerable level as long as I'm drugged up. Sometimes the pain comes on like a semi truck. Yesterday and today I feel like I've been run over and they backed up and ran over me several more times. Lot's of hot baths, showers and yes the more chocolate the better even though my doctor says to leave the chocolate alone. I swear it helps. When I overdo I'm out for the next 3-5 days until I can regain some strength. Stress also brings on the pain with gusto.

I used to get more all over pain - and it used to scare me big time. That lifted over the years as I figured out various things that help me. However, just last week when dealing with this virus that nailed me, I did get instant pain all over that was horrendous, like the old days, and it was turned on like flipping a light switch, plus a headache (not my normal migraines). The pain felt like it was both in muscles (mostly the bigger ones) and also in the joints. Not sure if that virus triggered the fibro - or what.

If this isn't normal for what you usually experience, I guess I'd wait a day, or two, and if it is still there then check it out with your doctor, just to be on the safe side.

Fortunately I've had very few flares. On the flip side I've had very few days that are "good". There are days when I feel too tired to sit up. Also I get lots of pain in my legs, top to bottom. I've tried every narcotic pain reliever, including oxycontin, (went through the NSAIDS years ago) and nothing helps my pain. I take lyrica because it helps me sleep. But there is nothing that will touch the pain.

I have just had some really bad days with strange pains as well. It is winter here so I can't blame anything on it as it is not even really cold[for us] this winter.

Minw started as I was cooking a meal. It hit my hips I could not move and from there it spread through my body. The next day while shopping for food it was like I was having contractions the pain had me doubled over. Not a nice look while in the middle of a busy supermarket, I can tell you I was getting some very strange looks. My Doctor was concerned and wanted to give me handfuls of different meds. I said no the 5 I was walking out with was enough.

I never want that type of pain again.
