Hello all.  I will be seeing my Doc next week and am going to ask to try Lyrica.  We have talked about this for several months but I think I'm ready.  I was wondering about any of your personal experiences with this drug.  Thanks everyone and have a wonderful day! turn

Morning Libby,
I tried Lyrica but for a very short time. I gained 7 lbs in less than a week and gave up on it. I also had the same problem with Neurontin and from what I understand, they are very similar. The Neurontin did help with my sciatic pain, helped me sleep. I wasn't on the Lyrica long enough to really notice a difference.

Doc started me off with Lyrica 2 years ago.  I found it best to start my doseages at bedtime so as not to have to deal with side effects of feeling light headed, dizzy, during the day.  It helped to do so and now any new meds I start at bedtime.  Lyrica also gave me dry-mouth when I first started it for a bit which eventually went away.  I have gained about 30 lbs over the last 2 years while on it, but thankfully for the last 6 months my weight has held steady.  I haven't been happy about the weight gain (especially since it's ALL in my abdomen, so I look pregnant) but it, like all of our meds is a trade off pain between side effects.  I'm on 150mg 2 x day.  For awhile I was on 150mg 3 x day, but the side effects at that doseage were way way too much for me so I dropped the midday dose.  We tried it at a lower doseage for the midday dose, but the side effects were still too much.  Lyrica has made a difference in my pain and within a few days of starting found I had more energy and didn't hurt as much.  It was not enough to take away my pain, or even knock it down completely and within 6 months we added other meds to help.

My dr. tried me on Lyrica as well. I couldn't tolerate it as it made me very irritable & cranky, Or should I say my husband couldn't tolerate it. ;) I've been on neurontin for about 8 wks now but not sure if I really see a difference with it. I have noticed a significant weight gain. Which I feel in turn puts more stress on my joints when I exercise, so seriously weighing option if it's worth it. Hope that helps. I know it's frustrating but alot of it is trial and error to find the "recipe" that's right for you.

I have not tried it but my brother has been taking it for diabetic nueropathy and while it does make him dizzy...he says it has made a huge difference in how much pain meds he needs. I hope it goes well for you if you decide to try it.

Libby, I think there are at least a couple of threads on Lyrica, you can search for them. I have a long post somewhere. I've taken Lyrica for almost 3 years and it has done wonders for my sleep, not the pain, though. Diane

It seemed to help my pain for a few weeks and then it was like I wasn't taking anything anymore, so I quit. I was disappointed, of course, but I guess this experience isn't uncommon.

Hi Libby just wanted you to know that I have never tried Lyrica, because the meds Im on now seem to work for me so why change them. I will be praying that it works for you.
