Adam, my heart goes out to you. This should be a wonderful time in your life but you sure have been hit with a lot of things. First of all, take one day at a time. Really. Don't project yourself in the future because we don't know what the future holds. The researchers just might find out what causes fibro and whatever else you MAY have and then can go for a cure. You are young and have your whole life ahead of you and it can be a good life.
I'm praying that you get out of that wheelchair. Many, though, STILL have a great life even when they are needing a wheelchair. I know it's easy for me to say but I've known some great people that have been confined to a wheelchair and they never let that stop them. One was my son's speech therapist. She was head of the department of a college, too. She also was a quadraplegic! What a wonderful inspiration for me and a great speech therapist, I might add. This was all before personal computers were out, too. Now there are so many things that can be done on those. I also have a friend that has been paralyzed for 45 years. He was head of Paralyzed American Veterans and he is very active and does a lot of traveling, too. I'm not saying this will happen to you but wanted to give you some examples of people who have had a fulfilling life in spite of needing a wheelchair.
The great news is that they want to start you on physical therapy to get you out of the wheelchair! That tells me that they think this is totally possible. My mother had a very bad stroke and couldn't walk, dress herself, or even swallow! But, through therapy, she learned how to do everything, including walking, again! So keep your hope alive! You know, perhaps when you get your pain under control, you will be able to get out of the wheelchair. If I don't stay active, my legs get weaker, too. When you don't use the muscles, they do become weaker. The saying, "If you don't use it, you lose it" is really true. So, once they know what is going on and once you start physical therapy, that wheelchair might just be a memory!
Now, maybe you don't have anything else neurological wrong with you. I'm just guessing but doctors are now starting to think that fibro is a neurological problem so perhaps that's what is being "seen". Just wait to find out what is going on and then you can face it head on. Not knowing is the hard part. Your mind can congure up a whole lot of things which will just stress you out. The stress makes the pain worse.
So, just deal with today. Focus on other things. Accomplish as much as you can. When you have to take medication from your "pharmacy" on your nightstand, thank God that these things are available to us now. I stop and think how awful this would have been if I were born a couple of hundred years ago! Goodness! But we have things to help us get better and to help us feel better. We all hate taking the medication but it also is a blessing, too.
I'll definitely be praying for you and also that the doctors see what is going on and can get you back on your feet. Please keep up updated because we really do care about you! I hope you have a good day today.
