How much weight have you gained from Fibro?

Just wondering if anyone else packed on pounds due to the Fibro before being diagnosed. I packed on 100 pounds....

I gained about 50. I was quite active before fibromyalgia. I try to walk everyday. But it isn't enough I don't think. I know how frustrating it is. But try to keep moving. That is what gets you. Because you don't have the energy to do the things that you use to do. So I try to eat less too. And eat healthy. But I know that the lack of exercise has a lot to do with it and the medications that I have to take.

I have had fibro for at least 20 years and never gained a pound until I started taking Lexapro and Valium three years ago.  I have gained 22 pounds just this year so I stopped the drugs.  I have not lost the weight yet...I have Benzo Belly and wonder if I will ever get it off.  These drugs effect seratonin and gaba receptors which CAN make you hungry...especailly for carbs.  Like Karen, I am wondering if it's not the fibro but the drugs we take to help the symptoms that pile on the weight.

The opposite problem for me - but that may be because of IBS issues.

I have gained about 20 pounds. I'm really hoping that some of the weight comes off since I quit cymbalta (7 days ago). I've noticed an increase in energy already.

The weight is a very hard thing for me to accept, not the only reason I quit cymbalta, but a HUGE part of it. I believe my weight is due to the drugs I have taken for so many years. I don't believe it's directly from Fibro. That sounds like a dumb statement, but I have been dx's with a lot of food allergies and gave up ALL dairy, ALL gluten, etc. and I wasn't losing weight AT ALL. I'm very strict with my diet and so many people give up just a little of what I have and drop 10 pounds over night.

Just my two cents. Is that the saying? I never get the saying right?

I have noticed an increase on weight not by much, but a change. I also take Lorazepman. Does anyone know if you can gain weight from Lorazepman? Does the weight creep up on you on this med? I know that when I took Cymbalta a long time ago, the weight creeped up on me. When I stopped it, I lost it all. I am thinking that the same goes for Lorazepam.

I don't know if it is Fibro. I gained 30 pounds in two months when I started Lyrica. I sleep a lot better now though, so I'm still on it. Over the last 25 years I've had two children and gained 100 pounds. But my sister and brother are both way overweight and don't have fibro. I had a lap band surgery last spring and have lost 35 pounds so far, but it is hard. I can't walk more than a block or do much else. Diane

I've put on 90lbs in 6 years. Lyrica caused a 30lb weight gain . Its very depressing but its also hard to get motivated to work out when you feel awful all the time.

I never took the drugs that doctors are giving out so I didn't gain weight.  Actually, I have lost weight by keeping moving, which is so important with this illness, and also watching how many carbs I eat.  But, I really think the medications are the culprit...not the fibro...unless you are sitting around all day because of pain.

i've slowly gained about 15 pounds ... and i haven't taken meds for a long time ... just started cymbalta again a couple months ago and lost some weight with that ... i think it's because i felt pretty nauseated for a while until i adjusted.

i'm convinced that my weight gain is because i'm so inactive. i've just simply been in too much pain to do much other than the 'have to' stuff that comes with taking care of three kids. i tried physical therapy at one time, was told that if i kept moving it would help .. but i swear it just made everything so much worse. even after several months of trying ... so i finally gave up and decided that i just couldn't handle any MORE pain than i was already in ... and stopped the small amount of exercise i was trying to accomplish.

I gained about 50 lbs and then I lost 15 lbs with a lot of trying and being hungry. The I was dx and started medication. I've lost another 12 to 15 lbs, but I still need to lose 25 lbs. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! I am trying to do Tai Chi to get some movement in my life. I really like it, but it is hard to get into a routine. I am so tired when I come home from work. I cook dinner and then hit the couch! LOL And I have not always been a couch potato. I used to work out at least three times a week at the gym. Wow! That seems like a lifetime ago.

When I was DX'ed I was a healthy 115 lbs 2 and a half yrs ago, was 75 lbs last Oct but have managed to gain and maintain 85 lbs since Feb. I think my weight loss has more to do with my husband being disabled, we have a 5 y/o son and when something needs done I 'get' to do it. Unless the pain knocks me unconscious, as it has in the past, I keep moving keep doing, even if I'm screaming inside.

With Fibro as mentioned above, you have to keep moving. You have to try to move around and get some type of exercise or it will consume you. I try to do some type of exercise on a daily basis. This has kept me from gaining weight, but a lot of pain. I sometimes just have to hold the pain inside and keep moving. Otherwise, if you don't move, it will get worse. I did gain a few pounds while on Lorazepam and I just decided to stop it. I will see if I now lose the few pounds I gained. Not much, but I did notice the couple of pounds creeping up on me and did not want it to get out of control. So I stopped all my meds. As far as Lyrica, I heard this makes you gain a lot of weight. Savella is better for you and does not make you gain weight if you can tolerate it. I had to stop it. Too much stomach sickness and could not handle it. I refuse to take Lyrica so the doctor won't put me on it. I refuse to take anything that makes me gain weight. That only adds to the problems.
