I've had fibro for about 7 years. I have been thru tests, all the drugs and so far nothing works. I am 45, now the pain is my hands and wrists, had an mri and nerve test that came back normal. I have never been so depressed! This pain makes me WISH for the other pains and aches!! Just interested to know if anyone has tried some sort of inpatient rehab?

Im sorry for the pain you are in. I know that fibro has a tendancy to move. You get used to having it in one area and then all of a sudden you have to get used to it in another. There have been times I have cried over the frustration of trying to get used to new pains all over again.

I have never heard of inpatient therapy for fibro. Not sure what they could do that clinics cant. I have heard of people spending a fortune on some of the clinics that specialize in fibro and still come out hurting the same as before.

I hope that you find something soon to help your pain.

Lacjac,

Are you able to get out and walk? It is so therapeudic for us. It relieves stress and clears your mind. Makes you stronger, and relieves some of the pain. If you have the oppertunity, it will lift your depression too.

I have never been to an inpatient program, but participated in a fairly intensive pain management program. It was 2 times a week for 5 hours each day for a month, so 40 hours total. I do not take any medication for the pain or associated conditions. I learned some helpful techniques regarding pacing and relaxation. I definitely benefited from physical therapy and learned about Feldenkrais there which also really helped me. However, many things I found unhelpful/counterproductive. Unfortunately they could not taylor the program to every person's needs, perhaps it could be in an inpatient program. The program was for pain management of all chronic pain conditions.

I think I benefitted from the program a little, but overall I was disappointed in the outcome. Just as Shirley said, I came out hurting just like I had before but I did learn a few techniques/things.

Hi and nice to meet you.

I haven't tried inpatient treatment and I don't think many have. Since there really isn't a cure for fibro I suppose some people would be helped by different exercises, group or personal therapy and education. There are pain counselors who specialize in helping with the depression that chronic pain brings with it. That might be another alternative for you to check out.
