I have looked at this site for sometime and have felt a great deal of admiration for all the the sharing and advice I've seen here. I have had Fibromyalgia for many years. I find as I get older that I get more and more chronic non infectious sinus along with the headaches and post nasal drip and coughing and of course the usual fatigue. I get several bouts a year and each one lasts about 4 weeks or more.I was wondering if others have had similar experiences. Sometimes I think it is triggered by perfumes or chemical smells or maybe nothing at all. I get all the other issues too but this one currently is giving the most trouble. Thanks for any ideas you have.

Me too. Allergies, sinus issues. Have started allergy shots. Had sinus surgery done a few years back and gromma tubes in the ears. The sinus surgery really helped a lot.

I did notice when estrogen levels were lower, I had more sinus infections.

Hi, freddygirl. Hope you like it here!

My doctor diagnosed me with Chronic Nonallergic Rhinitis many years ago, and since then I use nasal drops twice a day - that's all - and it seems to really help. I also used nasal steroid spray for awhile but didn't notice it doing anything, so quit that.

Hi freddygirl, welcome to our fibro forum, I dont know if this pertains to the fibro but I do know that I always get a cold with each change of the season. I have been this way for as long as I can remember.

Hi freddygirl. I have had sinus problems for a long time. Most if it is related to allergies to things like mold, dust, etc. Have you talked to a doctor about your problem? I highly recommend that you do. There are a ton of treatment options running from as basic as using a neti pot to meds to surgery and a doctor would be the best person to direct your treatment, of course. I used to be on prescriptions for the allergies/sinus but they decided to stop working so am now on herbal supplements which have been doing a very good job so far.

Hi, Freddygirl, and welcome!  I'm so glad you decided to take the plunge and  join our family.  I think you will like it here.

 

You know, lately I've been having sinus problems.  I'm not sure if is just the weather because this usually doesn't happen to me.  But, it hasn't become annoying enough to mention it to my doctor yet.  I do agree that as we age the aches and pains are more pronounced.  I'm not sure if the fibro is getting worse or that the typical aches and pains added to the fibro makes it seem worse.  But, I keep on truckin' and am enjoying life!

 

If you haven't had a chance, be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  I'm still leaning things about fibro and I've had it for years!

 

I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.  Don't hesitate to ask questions.  Hope to hear more from you soon.

I have a lot of sinus issues, too. I have a chronic sinus infecdtion. I am not a doctor, just a patient like you, but I can tell you that drinking pineapple juice, eating garlic and using saline solution nasal spray will sometimes keep an infection away for me. The pineapple juice has a lot of vitamin C in it, garlic has antibacterial properties, or so I have been told, and the saline solution keeps my sinuses from getting too dry. Just an idea.

Hi All,
I also have sinus/allergy issues. I;ve noticed that its become a constant for about a yr.at least. I;m stopped up, ears ringing, dry mouth, I can;t smell anymore. I started getting bad sick with it about 3 days ago, started out where I couldn;t hardly talk, about lost my voice and now I;m coughing real bad..It hurts in my back real bad.
I;ve heard alot of people complain about allergies w/fibro. It seems to exasperate any problems u have.
Personality wise I consider myself a type F. F"n tired of all things Fibro..haha (hope that ok to say, just trying to lighten things up..

I take a digestive enzyme with bromelein in it that comes from pineapples, I also drink pineapple juice, spray my nose twice daily with saline solution and sometimes use my neti pot. Believe it or not these have helped tremendously. I haven't had a sinus infection in over a year. Prior to these practices I constantly had sinus infections.

OMG like I can not believe no one even bothered to mention Oil of Oregano by Nature's Way...not only will it cure your sinus issues but will help with all other viruses & bacteria and the biggest plus is it is a pain reliever and will help...know thy self, you may need to take it longer than a week as we are all different in how much" toxic build" up we have so it may take you one day to notice the effects or one month. With that said, no I don't believe all FMS is from toxic build up type stuff, just used the word loosely there.

pixelmation, I see that you are an oil of oregano fan. It has great antibacterial properties hence helping with a lot of issues.

I had a dog that was constantly sick (german Shepherd, of course) and I used it for her quite a bit. Unfortunately she had a genetic awful immune system and died at 4 years of age............that one was my heart dog.

Most of my knowledge about supplements comes from researching for my dogs.

Thanks for all the input and good suggestions.I will definitely try some of them. It was interesting to read the one about pineapple. I was thinking that I haven't had any for a long time and would get some when DH came walking in with a couple of things from the store including a pineapple!

I have been doing the saline mist, sporadically I must admit, will do better, and the oil of oregano interests me.

It is good to know we are not alone in our misery! Thanks again.

I;ve never heard of Oil of Oregano. You really think it helps with sinus? I;d definetly give it a try, my husband and I both have sinus issues..Is it a tablet or pill form or what?

I've had a chronic sinus problem for about a year and a half. Recently my allergist had me on Bactrim, then changed me to Diflucan, which seems to be working even better. She says sinus problems are often caused by yeast and mold.

I also rinse with my own mix of water, salt and baby shampoo: 500 ml/1 tsp/1 tsp. I don't ahve a "netti" pot, but my smallest teapot does the same job.

My allergist also has me rinsing twice a day with Bactroban nasal ointment in 15 ml saline from a spray bottle which is then microwaved about 15 - 30 sec to heat it up and melt the prarafin. The parafin sticks to the side of the glass cup I melt it in and I pour the rest back into the spray bottle.

Interesting regimen. Seems to be working.
