Wish me luck today, please.  My husband hates when I take Soma, sometimes but not always it knocks me out for 2 or 3 hours as in dead to the world.  I usually wait until I know that I don't have to go anywhere, dinner is planned, and my phone calls are made for the day  before I take it.  Soma and occasionaly fioronol are the only things that I take that have any kind of effect like that.  He is ready to divorce me unless I agree to never take soma again.  I took it yesterday afternoon and he blew up.  Today is an OK day says he doesn't want a divorce.  I do not drink, no narcotics, and really don't go anywhere.

In my shoes would (collective you) stop the soma.  I take it to head off the muscle spasms that are coming. 

I also found out that he has told people that I doctor shop and use different pharmacies which is absolutely not true nono .

I finally got him to agree to read the article in fibro 101.  I told him that not being able to talk about it at all is so very hard on me.  I don't really complain much unless I hurt really bad.

I hope this will help him understand things better.  Your doctor wouldn't give you Soma if you didn't need it.  Get some rest and feel better.

I think he is being unfair expecting you to give up something that the doctor prescribed in order to help your pain. I guess that is where I would probably make a stand in my defense.
It is so sad that he has no idea the difference between dependancy and addiction. I would understand his reaction if you were out buying drugs off the street corner but he has to realize that the doctor knew this was something you needed to manage your pain.
I hope that you can get him to understand and I am praying for you.

(((Denise)))..I wish I could reach out and give you a real hug!

Would your hubby be willing to go to the doctor with you? Ask him to go...maybe the doctor can explain that the Soma is helpful in giving you relief and that you are not an abuser. Muscle relaxers are common for fibro treatment...many of us use them when needed.

Robin's got a great idea, Denise. Of course, if your husband is one of those people who think they know more than the doctor, it probably wouldn't help...but I don't know what else you're supposed to do. You're doing the best you can. Heck, I read your description of what you do, with your dogs and all, and it blows me away! I'm amazed that you are able to do all that. You need understanding, not ultimatums, in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies and kind words!  He will never be invited to the doctor with me as he would get any and all drugs stopped, I know it.  He did read the article and agreed with the first parts totaly but when he got to the doctors and researchers claiming it was a disease his response was that "it is all about the money"  money for research, money for doctor visits and the expensive fibro drugs.  He is very unreasonable to say the least

I did get a little understanding out of him and he insists that going to the gym would make all my pains go away pffttt.  His fee is 34.00 a month and it would be double if I was to join also, we can't afford his let alone adding me.  I never was a gym rat anyway.

I want him to set the bowflex (that he had to buy @ 1,900.00) so I can exercise my legs AT HOME  LOL.

I'm sorry to say this but I really want to kick some sense into him!!

OK, lets give credit where credit is do. He did read something and that's asking a lot of a MAN!!

A question I would have for him being SO dead set against soma, did HE have a problem with it in the past?? I busted my husband aquiring vidocin illegally and taking it without Dr's permission. Now, he never had a problem with any medication since then. Never had a problem with having vicodin in the house for like 6 months straight when I was fighting a HARD core sinus infection. But the behavior he's exhibiting leads me to believe theirs a deeper reason for him not wanting it around than just not wanting YOU to take it.

I always pray for you. And shake my head in disbelief at what you go through.

Mrs Mike, He does not even like to take advil for his sore knee.  The doctor prescribed clonopin, very small dose, for anxiety and you would have thought he drank a 5th of scotch.  It was actually funny, he hasn't taken it since.  Soo no, no past drug issues for him.  We drank a lot when we met and rode the harley everywhere (bar hopping) but I HAD to quit and he doesn't drink either. 

He is a control freak and this is another thing he wants to control.

Wow! I don't know what I would do, if I were in your shoes. I guess I would do what I have to do to get through my days. I would continue to take my medication as needed and as prescribed. I take Soma, also. Sometimes it does make me sleepy and I fall asleep for an hour or two. I only take one Soma a day, unless I have done something to aggravate my neck and/or back. If I don't take Soma in the evening, I do not sleep well, and we all know what no sleep leads to......increased pain! I also take Tramadol three times a day. Sounds to me like your husband doubts this is a real disease. He isn't alone. I've seen a few eye rolls when the subject of Fibro comes up in general conversation with people who do not know that I have fibro. I am so sorry you do not have the full support of your husband. We understand what you are going through. Will keep you and your husband in my prayers.

I didn't read the other posts so forgive me if I say something that has already been said, but what if you take a half of one instead of a whole one. I took soma for years and didn't fall asleep from it, so it might be a little too strong. I could always function on it. The only thing is if I didn't eat, I would have a loopy feeling for a half an hour or so. But try taking half of one and see what happens. Maybe your husband wouldn't get upset, and they would last you longer. Many people abuse soma. My doctor took me off but I have over 100 stockpiled, and stopped taking it every day. He wants me on flexeril, but I hate it.

I could hug you Karen!!  FOOD!!! I never thought about having an empty stomach.  Usually I can function totally but occasionally it hits like a ton of bricks.  And that is usually around lunchtime and I haven't eaten anything yet.

Thankfuly my doctor does not like flexiril either.  Hangover feeling in the morning.

Denise, you are an adult so your husband would never be allowed to stop your medications.  You are not institutionalized so he has no right to do that.  He does the Soma bit because he can.  Nope.  You are an independent adult and you should expect yourself to be treated like one.  Don't allow yourself to be treated like this.

I am at work in the office but wanted to share this response from my mother, I sent her the same link from fibro 101

Kind of reminds me when Dr Klein said there was no such thing as whiplash when your dad had absolutely no strength in his hand..he said that he was just trying to get off work.  The chiropractor said that Dr Klein better hope that he never gets a whiplash.  That was the end of Dr Klein for us...never went back.Sceptics better hope they never develop fibromyalgia.

tongue  You all are going to laugh your collective butts off at this one. tongue    Hubby had a sore knee a few days ago, well today he tells me that all of a sudden the pain moved to his elbow .

Did I mention that he is a hypochindriac?

I am waiting for him to suggest fibro for himself!!

I would never wish fibro on anyone... but if he ends up with it, well... full circle. What goes around, comes around. He better shut his yap about your "habbit"... or he'll have pain so bad he''ll be beggin for something.

I have soma too. I have pretty much an endless supply. I have tried flexeril. Nothing. I have tried skelaxin. Nothing. There was another one that I took that gave me insomnia. So Soma is my only option left. And guess what, I took a whole soma last night with 5 mg ambien and laid awake stareing at the ceiling just about all night.

So my husband has been quiet, subdued (How do you spell that word??). It's 8:19 pm here and he went to bed about 30 minutes ago. I've asked him over and over (for the past couple days) "Are you oK? You haven't been yourself lately..." so today I said "You sit there and tell me your fine yet you've said about 2 words to me since you've been home" he says "Of course I'm not fine. I haven't been sleeping at night..." OMG!! I swear!! He's been moping around here for a week. I've asked him (like I already say) "everything OK?? blah blah blah..." I'm tired. I haven't slept good in 2 years. But I don't mope around here like a whiney baby. I TELL YOU (especially when you've asked me if I am OK) that I am tired because I am not sleeping well. Then I snuggle up to you and hope to fall sleep. BIG BABIES!!!

I am in a better place tonight and thank everyone for their kindness and understanding.

I have decided to work in the office 2 or 3 days a week which will make him happy and give me money for animal food.

A good friend can now get pet food at distributor prices I just hope there is horse food and chicken food.  I know he can get my brand of dog and cat food which is good.

My work today consisted of arranging flights for sales reps flights to an expo next month, got a price on shipping product to a new customer and a few other things.  Not too bad.

I feel better now.

I am so happy that you are feeling better now. I am glad you will be taking your soma with food. Do you take brand name, or generic? I have tried both. I know that the generics differ with different brands. But the brand name is really strong. Kind of rough on the stomache. That is why I like the generic better. If I get the right ones. I have quite a few of them stashed. I now only take them about once a week or so. I am going to ask the doctor if he would prescribe them once in a while. Even if he just gave me 30, that would last a long time. I do have to focus more on relaxing my shoulders when I don't take them, but it can be done. And it really helps me. I do meditation at night and it does help me relax and go to sleep. I take ambien too. But there are times when I need that soma. The flexeril gives me a hangover too. Again, I am glad that you feel better. I have to check out the party thread and see how we are doing on our trip to Sherrine's.
