I am new...anyone else have fibromyalgia and psoratic arthritis?

Hi everyone!

 

I am new, am a 41 yo female who has fibromyagia, psoratic arthritis and minor bipolar disease..live in Portland, OR.

 

I am interested in treatments, meds etc you use...

 

I take Vicodin 10/325, Fentanyl patch, Flexaril, Neurontin 800 mg aday...among a few other...I refuse to take any SSRIs...apparently they are really bad if you have any sort of bipolar...and although a lot of people take them my personal belief is that it is extreamly over prescribed, and maybe helps about 10% of patients...I had a horrible situation when I was taking Cymbalta..had to be hospatalized to come off of it..was having suicidal thoughts...and I am not "depressed"...I swear by Abilify though..on a low dose and it has changed my life for the better!

 

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know a few of you!

Hi Kiley and welcome to Healing Well. I don't have alot of info to offer you but I did want to welcome you to the family! You found a great place to vent and get support. Although the weekends can be slow at times.

My meds are listed below, it took awhile to come up with the right combo but for the most part they work well for me. I hope you keep coming back and once again welcome. Take care.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have OA, EOA and Fibromyalgia. I do take Lexapro becuase it stops the burning in my feet. My ortho thinks I should take Neurotin, but I am hesitant to take any more drugs. I also take Chloroquine, Tramadol, two high BP meds, Vitamin D and Libitor.

I would think you would be prescirbed a DMARD for your Psoratic Arthritis, but you didn't mention that...???

Hi Kiley and welcome to our fibro family, Some form or other of arthritis seems common among alot of us. I use the fentanyl patches and valium to help control my pain but I also take prozac which is an anti-depressant and for me it has made a big difference. We are all different though and our bodies react differently to medicines. I cant take any oral pain meds because I end up getting really sick.

I am sorry you have to be here but I am glad you found us. feel free to ask questions, vent when needed or offer support to others.

I am 23, have fibromyalgia and bipolar disorder. I take cymbalta for the fibro and neurontin for my bipolar. I know how you feel, it sucks, but you have to keep going even when the pain is as much as you think you can take. If you need anything, my facebook page is on my profile. I am newly diagnosed with fibro but the bipolar has been with me for 9 yrs now.

I took abilify and actually was hospitalized for a seizure. I take 1200 mg of neurontin daily and have tried every other bipolar med possible besides shock therapy. every bipolar med makes me want to commit suicide. i take valium, xanax, cymbalta and neurontin right now. if you need anything let me know. my mom is schizophrenic. i know a ton about mental illnesses.

Kiley, I have osteoarthritis and hypermobile joint syndrome and some other thing that I cannot remember the name. but not psoratic. What is that?

Vannie, what is eoa? I have burning feet and suppose it is the fibromyalgia, because the podiatrist cannot find anything wrong with me. He thought it might be RA, but it is not. It is very difficult to walk or stand for a long period of time.

and Shirley, I think the prozac is making my brain more clear. The dr said it would help with migraines and fibro, so since my depression has passed and I was fine without it, I started taking it again a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Kiley,

I can't add anything about meds as I only take OTC painkillers when I have to. However, something in your posting just jumped out at me and it was such a strange coincidence.

My daughter is under going tests and x-rays and ct scans right now. She has been having severe pain in her hips and shoulders for a long time. Also for years has had a rash on her abdomen and ears that was said to have been excema or metal allergy.

She is seeing a rheumatologist who is talking about psoriasis
and arthritis. She also has a stomach ulcer and GERD. Now she is having shortness of breath. The GP says maybe leaking ulcer is causing that and she has just had x-rays. However, I was doing some research on Psoratic Arthritis which said it can affect the lungs with shortness of breath.

I had never heard of this condition before so I was very interested in your post as I have wondered for years if she also has undiagnosed FM.

I would be interested to learn about Psoratic Arthiritis if you would care to comment.

I am so sorry your daugher is suffering so....the most information I get is off of google..Psoratic Arthritis affects hips, back and your fingers swell like with osteo...I am fortunate I don't have any breakouts, but after a million tests this is what it has come down to..I am HLAB27 positive...meaning I carry the gene for Anklosing Spondalitis as well,but few females, about 25% actually get the diagnosis for that,but google that too...
The fentanyl patch has been a total God Send...I don't wake up feeling like I was run over by a truck...

Is Psoriatic arthritis systemic and progressive like RA ?

Psoratic Arthritis is an autoimmune disease and progressive...very similar to RA..my fiance has RA...I get really high fevers at night as well..but I went to the dr today and cut my vicodin rx in half due to my new fentanal patches...I swear it is a miracle...no pain in the middle of the night and I wake up not having to shove down a bunch of vicodin!
