Sorry, I'm new to all this and still learning. Can something immediately trigger pain, or within a few minutes? I drank some coffee and had a significant increase in pain. I'm wondering if it could be the cause?
Thanks!

Yes! Well, actually, everything is different for every person but generally yes. There are a lot of articles about
it out on the web if you do a quick search. But basically, in a body like ours which is already overrun and overtired, the caffeine pumps the body up with artificial energy and gets it going, which the doesn't actually have the energy to do. For me, I know this is why I've never gotten that "awake" feeling from caffeine - I actually get sleepier when I have it! Someone I know who has a lot of neurology background and experience says it's because my body will get worn out faster from trying to get energized. Our body, going sort of haywire from this artificial energy, may become then more receptive to feelings of pain.
Sorry! Hope this made sense and is fairly accurate... I'm very foggy today!

Hi Karen,
My doc says caffeine usually does not bother his other fibro patients. Some days I know that drinking a cup of coffee will make me feel worse though. I'm slowly weaning myself away from it. As much as it bothers me, going without caffeine gives me a terrific headache.
I'm still learning too. My dx was last November. This is a great sight, everyone really cares about
each other.
Take care,

Whenever I drink coffee I notice an increase in my pain as well as the skin burning feeling and I don't like that at all. So instead of drinking coffee I take B-12 the kind that melt under your tongue and it gives me twice as much energy as coffee and no pain.

Removing coffee from my diet has never done anything special for me, so I keep it. I do however use only decaf and drink only decaf teas, usually naturally decaf teas. I love my coffee, not for the caffeine, but because I do love coffee.

Hi, I have never noticed coffee making anything worse for me except when my stomach is messed up, then I have a cup of green tea. I am a coffeeaholic, don't usually go with out it. I never notice caffine giving me a lift either and I wish it did LOL

Caffiene is a stimulant. It stimulates the nervous system and can cause more pain, because that is where ours is coming from. I still drink coffee, and just live with it. I have to have my coffee. lol...
I sure do hope that you feel better soon. Try some gentle stretching.
Hugs, Karen

Coffee is also a natural pain reliever. Its effects vary from person to person. For me, it helps my pain and, reduces the exhaustion I feel.
