flexeril question.

Hi all. I havent been diagnosed with Fibro, but my dr says I may have it. Anyway, after having a spinal x-ray done because of terrible burning back pain, he gave me a prescription for both Naproxen and Flexeril. The x-ray showed I just have scoliosis, which from everything Ive read it says its not supposed to cause pain. Anyway, I havent taken the Flexeril yet because Ive heard it can really knock you out. The script says to take 3x daily, but thats not going to happen if true. I have 3 children(17,5,and 2) so its not really feasible to be in and out of sleep all day.
Has anyone here taken it and if so, what has your experience been? Thanks so much:)

I didn't care for Flexaril myself - made me nauseated but not necessarily too sleepy - but my H says it made him sleepy when he had to take it. We both now take Zanaflex 4 times a day.
If you feel you really need something, tho, would you maybe consider taking a 1/2 at night so whatever knots you've got going in there have a chance to relax? Just a suggestion. I sure hope you don't have Fibro and this is a passing thing for you.

I take flexeril 2x a day and don't really notice a difference but, my daughter cannot take it because it makes her too sleepy. And, I have heard of other people having dry eyes/mouth from it. She and I take some different meds so maybe the drug interaction is why some do ok with it and some don't.?

I took flexeril and didn't like the sluggishness that it caused. And after I took it at night, when I woke up, I felt like I had some kind of a hangover. I must be honest, I didn't give it much time. I understand that after a few weeks that the grogginess can go away. It didn't relax my muslces though like soma does. Though my doctor does not want to prescribe it for me. I guess the doctors think of it as a buzz drug. If that is the case, I surely didn't like the buzz. I would feel loopy for about 30 minutes upon 20 minutes after taking it. But I found out if you take it with food, that doesn't happen. So I always took it with food when I could.

I sure do hope that the flexeril does help you. Have you ever tried a bed buddy for muscle pain? It really helps. Plus gentle stretching helps a lot.

instead of taking 10 mg as perscribed I took 5mg in the evening after dinner and it will relax you and my pain went away and good nights sleep. I also have young kids 9, 6, and almost 3 and cannot be groggy so the the 5mg worked wonders. Might give it a try and I only took 1 of those a day.

Thank you all. After doing the x-rays for about 20 minutes because the tech kept getting it wrong and my arms being outstretched in front of me, my left arm is giving me a hard time today, so I may try it tonight. Id like to cut it in half, the pill just seems so small as it is.
@ getting by- I have never tried or heard of a bed buddy..I will have to look into one of those. My 5 yr old daughter is being tested for a possible collagen deficiency( we see the geneticist in July). the neurologist said I show similar features while examining me. so that could be another possibility for me.

A bed buddy is a tube filled with rice. You heat it in the microwave and then put it around your neck. Actually you can make one by using a tube sock and filling it 3/4 way with real long grain rice. You microwave it for about three minutes it seems. But it relieves all the tension in your neck and shoulders. I put them by my feet in the winter when the nights are cold. I think you would enjoy one.

I take flexeril at bedtime. It relaxes my muscles and helps me to sleep. I have to take it early enough to get a good 8 hours sleep. I am really glad I started this med. Hope it works for you.

I take Flexeril for sciatica pain in my lower back and back of my legs. I can't take 1) 10mg as it makes me pretty punchy. So I have a pill cutter and I half the pill and that works great. When it take it during the day time I have halved that half pill still again (essentially a quarter pill) and that also works great for daytime when I need to be a bit more alert. I would say play around with how much of a pill you take. I always want the best results with the most minimal dosage. It is pretty strong (at least for me)--the 10mg that is.

I also take Flexeril 2X a day. I really haven't had any side effects. However, alot of medicines have the opposite effect on me. If it's supposed to make me sleepy, I'm awake for days! LOL Good luck and do try it. Just try it on a day when you have some help and don't have to drive anywhere.

I was originally prescribed to take the Flexeril 3 X a day. I could not stand the way it made me feel. I couldn't even think clearly. I told my doc and then she said to at least take one pill at bedtime. I am a stay at home mom and have a 5yr old so I cannot be groggy the next day. So then I requested a lower dose since I hate cutting little pills in half. I now take the 5mg and find that it works well for me. I get to rest/relax my muscles without feeling so groggy the next day. Another thing I wanted to metion was that I have also been prescribed SKELAXIN 800mg and that did not make me feel groggy at all! but then I switched insurances and my new insurance did not want to pay for it....so Flexeril it is.
