Hi,

I had another dr appt today. Going for testing in the am (for adrenal fatigue). In the meantime, my dr has given me a prescription for Lyrica and recommended a rheumatologist to check me for FM. My mother has FM and my uncle has severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. So with the history it sounds like a good idea. He said the rheum dr would be able to narrow my symptoms down.

However, I have herniated disc in my lower lumbar and degenerative arthritis in my low back. I wonder if this worsens the pain. The past few days I have wakened up with muscle soreness in my shoulders and shoulder blades.

 I have anxiety and have taken Cymblta for approx 3 years, and am somewhat skeptical about the Lyrica. I haven't seen many good reviews. Can anyone tell me if it has helped them? cry

I have read others who have success stories on the Lyrica. I only had very minor improvement -- not enough to justify the expensive out-of-pocket cost (since I don't have prescription coverage).

Thanks for the reply. Have read mixed reviews...but at this point I'm willing to try anything.

I tried it and it did absolutely nothing for me. However, as it does help many people it is worth a try! Can you imagine if it DOES work for you?

As others have said, it seems to work for some, but not for others. As a male with years of depression and fibromyalgia, I have found that Lyrica (300 MG per day) helps both of my conditions. It does have side effects, but the relief from pain and sadness far outweigh the side effects and the cost. I have the most difficulty in the winter, but the past two winters have been much better. I hope you find the right combination of treatments that works for you.

I have had fibro since second grade. Like the commercial says, "I know pain". I take meds that help but a doctor of mine has started me on vitamins. I was skeptical about it but tried; by the end of the week my pain levels had dropped. I now take 400 mg of B-2. 100 mg of Q-10. And 1300 mg of magnesium. I also go tanning once a week on a low bed. I know it sounds crazy but it works. It takes time and happens slowly. Good luck!!! Try the vitamins!!!!!

Oy Gevalt.
Stay away from the Tanning Salons esp. if you have had a close family member DXd w/ Skin Cancer or a family history of Cancer. Spray Tan if you must & or just go lay/walk outside for 20mins to get some Vitamin D.

Getting back on topic, I've been taking Lyrica more or less for a year or so now, 75mg. I weigh on average 108lbs. I really don't notice any difference in terms of lessening of muscle pain or joint pain. When it get's bad, it seems nothing makes things better but rest, pain medicine, and heat; but NOT in the form of a tanning bed. Heated Pool, Showers, Pads along those lines..

I think the drug is just hoopla. I bet there are some nice perks/kickbacks too for docs who RX it ;)

my best wishes to all who seek their solution and also provide the feedback for others. my experience with lyrica has really been the first time i have ever been affected with negative side effects, enough to d/c taking the drug. blurry vision, swelling in hands and feet, weight gain and auditory hallucinations. i have been in pain mgmnt with the VA for almost 11 years now. lots of different kind of meds and combinations of meds and procedures and such. 3 lumbar/sacral surgeries including bone graft and instrumentation for grade3 spondy. total disability. i am willing to trade off on benefits vs side effects when the drug works for me. 150mg twice daily lyrica did not work well enough for me in that regard.

just wanted to tell everyone thank you for your replies. i have started taking it a 75mg twice a day. it has been 3 days and can't tell alot just yet. but i did seem to rest a little better at least one night this week. adrenal test came back and all was fine....now onto the rheum dr. we'll see. keep u posted.
