Should I Dismiss Fibromyalgia because I'm Male?

I don't have a diagnosis of anything as of yet, however a lot of my symptoms seem to fit the fibro diagnosis. I'm just wondering why the majority of fibro sufferers are women and because I'm male does it make it less likely that my problems are fibromyalgia?

Please do not dismiss this, I think that you should still get this checked out! It is more common in women but from what I have heard men can get it to. I hope that you find out soon what is going on, and this a great place lots of support here. Here for you please keep us posted! :-)

My friend's husband has it, so I know that men can get it. There are a higher percentage of women who it it. You could just be one of the "lucky" men.

The path to diagnosis can be a long one. This is a great group for support no matter where you are.

Yes, men do get it also. I would go to the doc to get a diagnosis.

Yes men can have FM there are a few on this site, do not dismiss this as a diagnosis. Check out fibro101 its the 2nd post on the fibro thread, there is a vast amount of wonderful information and ideas to make out lives a little easier.

Absolutely do not dismiss this.  Whether a man or woman, you can suffer from fibromyalgia.  My girlfriend's husband is on disability with fibromyalgia.  It is very painful for him.  She has it as well, so they are a support for each other.

Heck no...probably 25 out of 100 people with Fibromyalgia are male.

I've met many men with fibro. One told me he thought it was under diagnosed in men. He was told for years that his pain was due to the sports injuries he received when he was younger. After years of suffering, he read an article about fibro and it matched his symptoms. His doc at the time didn't believe men could have fibro, he switched docs and was diagnosed. This doc treated his symptoms instead of brushing him off.
