     Hello!  I am new to this forum.  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia this week after years of searching for an answer to my symptoms.  I am wondering if anyone has had any issues with excessive sweating.  I seem to sweat profusely with very little exertion.  This is a fairly new symptom.  Any thoughts?

Did you doctor put you on medication?  Many of the drugs used to treat fibro cause excessive sweating.  Maybe others can chime in with some suggestions...and welcome to the forum!

Hi Sunflmom,

Welcome to the HealingWell Fibromyalgia forum. It is true that certain medications can make us sweat, but I would talk to the doctor about it and keep hydrated. I take a medication called abilify and I was told if I had bad sweating to let them know imediately. So this could be serious. Or it could be nothing. I would call the doc, just to make sure.

Keep posting, if you get a chance, check out the thread called fibro101. There are symptoms in there and sweating might be one of them.

Hi Sun, just wanted to say hi and welcome to our fibro family. Sorry you have to be here but Im glad that you found us. We have alot of great people here that are all very supportive. I dont have problems with sweating I just wanted to let you know what a great place this is. Dont be afraid to ask questions , vent or offer advice. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Sun and welcome!!  This is a great place to "talk" to others about our conditions.

As far as the sweating goes I also sweat and as I like to say "I sweat like a pig" LOL.  I can be doing almost nothing and my shirt looks like I was working in a chain gang in the full sun.  But as Gettin by said it would be a good thing to check with your doc.

thanks for all the input! I have not been prescribed any meds yet. I still have to have some tests done to make sure I don't have any other conditions so we can choose the best treatment. Glad for all the support.

So no Cholesterol meds at all? I have always been light at sweating until the last two years! Then found I was not only sweating but sweating only from my rib cage area to the nap of my neck. My breasts would get soaked. Simvastatin increased this three fold!! Savella then added to it again. I had a fan on me during the darn winter that's how bad it was. Now I'm off both and am relieved thats why I asked about meds too..

Yup, it's a symptom and meds can make it even worse. I have diabetes along with my fibro and have found that I need low calorie electrolyte replacement drinks to keep up with all that perspiration. Helps clear fibro fog and is good for your kidneys.

I no since I started taking lyrica and cymbalta I sweat profusely all day and especially at night my bed gets soaked and have to get up and change sheets in the middle of the night its a pain in the a**. Also since i stated the cymbalta i have very weird dreams all the time.

Welcome to the forums sunflmom, glad you found us. It's a great place for support and information.

I have been suffering from severe sweating - partly menopause induced, and partly medication induced. I bought some of the moisture wicking t-shirts and panties made from bamboo - they really help at night when the hot flashes come. I also have a neck wrap that has special crystals in it...you soak it cold water and then it stays cold for an hour or so - that feels really good when it's hot.

Other than that, I just drink lots of water to stay hydrated, and I make sure I know where all the bathrooms are when we go out!

Hi Carolyn. You didn't mention how old you are. Is there a possibility you're starting to go through menopause? Could be hot flashes.

Oh the sweating!!!! I can be sitting reading a book and break out in a sweat and at work i sweat all day long. I believe for me, it's the meds and fibro combined. I know that the first day i put on a new patch i have night sweats so bad if i wear a white tshirt with any color ink it will run and stain my bed and me, crazy huh?

Welcome to this wonderfull forum Sunflmom, i hope u feel right at home, i sure do :)

I would seriously cosider getting it checked out especially since u r not on any meds yet that could have been causing the sudden excesive sweats.

I never had this problem, at least not on my own. Since i started taking Redomex (amitriptilyne) last week i do get sweaty episodes, kinda similar to hot flashes i guess but they come and go it's not a constant issue and i did read that its one of the more common side effect of this particular drug so in my case i'm not that worried, but in your case i would have someone take a closer look,, it might be a clue as to whats going on inside your body.

I didn't have sweating issues until I started going into menopause... then things mellowed again -- until I went on various meds to address fibro issues. The sweating is such a common side effect (it was greatly magnified when I was on Savella), but to me it was a good tradeoff since I got significant pain relief. Unfortunately, other intolerable side effects forced me to discontinue it.

Here's a big group for all of us and the many things we have to muddle through with our fibro!!!
