Hi Marilyn, I've been on Savella for a couple years now...though it isn't a miracle drug for me, it has helped, a little with level of everyday pain.
In the past, I tried Cymbalta but couldn't take the nausea and dizziness that came with it. I've had no bad side effects with Savella.
My rheumy had given me 2, 2-week titration sample packs first. I was able to slowly build up my dosage..starting at one 12.5 pill a day and after a month ending, taking a 50 mg pill, 2x daily. The slow progression helped my body adjust to it and that is why I think didn't have the bad side effects.
I hope Savella works for you!
Hugs, Robin

Marilyn, I know that Savella is a SNRI and SNRI's are used for depression mainly. I can't say that it changed how I feel emotionally. I do get sad at times but never thought that I suffered from depression in the clinical sense. All these meds affect us differantly though...what works for one might not work for another.
Yes, Savella is costly...the retail cost for a 30 day supply is $137.99. With my insurance, I pay $45.00.

If you go to the search box you can find lots of posts on Savella. Some people like it, some don't. I'm down the list to Topamax now. I only tolerate 1/4 pill for now, but even that helps with pain. It's all about
the side effects!

Hi Judy, I don't know how long you have been on Savella. I'm guessing you have just started it. Normally doctors will give their patients a 2-wk triation pack...so you will slowly adjust to the med.
The 2-wk triation pack includes the following:
Five 12.5 mg tablets
Eight 25 mg tablets
Fourteen 50 mg tablets
My doctor had given me 2, 2-wk triation packs so that I had a month to adjust to the med instead of just 2 weeks.
After doing the triation pack, the normal full dose is 50mgs 2x daily. Not all people can tolerate a full dose. If you are having any side- effects. call your doctor. I have not had any bad side effects and I've never cut any of my pills. Be sure to call your doc if you are unsure of your dosage or if you are having any problems.

Dear Marilyn
I was without insurance for a long time, so I feel your frustration. If you meet a certain income level, you can get most meds free or almost free. It is worth the paperwork. The site is pparx.org. You can plug in your meds and it will direct you to manufacturers and any other programs. Anyone without insurance, check it out...I got $600/mo for free.
Good luck

I understand the frustration of no insurance. I'm told this is expensive and I'd look into alternatives like Maggie mentioned. Savella is helping me. I feel like I have more energy and my pain is brought down enough that most days advil is all I need to function pretty well. I had some nausea in the beginning, but my body adjusted. The best side effect for me is reduced appetite! I've been slowly loosing weight since I started on it.
