I got awarded disability!!! And, without a hearing!!! I'm so excited!!!! I'm going to be getting 22months of back pay!!! What a relief!!! Now I can try and get some of my health issues looked at!!!

Wow!!! that is fantastic. You deserve it and I am so happy that you got it awarded to you and without a hearing. This should relieve you of a lot of stress. And what a better time with the holidays. I am glad that you are thinking about the health aspect of this. I am so happy that you posted your good news. Congratulations!!!

Thanks Karen! I was denied in May and a brief was done to get an "on the record decision" Nov. 2nd and thankfully it was approved! It is a big stress reliever. It's funny what goes through our minds sometimes. I'm greatful for the good days i have and think I shouldn't be going on it then a day like today comes up and I'm like, oh yeah, this is why I applied. I still haven't dealt with those mixed feelings but now I can deal with more pressing health issues. I'll be entitled to Medicare in January too! So, I'll get medical pretty much immediately. Holidays are still gonna suck because we have NO money right now but I'll make it up for my son on his Birthday!

I'm so happy for you!  I remember when I obtained disability.  It was such a relief.  For me, it was the insurance aspect.  I was a widow, unable to work, and also unable to find an insurance company willing to take me on with all the chronic illnesses I have.  Medicare has been a blessing to me.

 

That 22 month check will be nice, too.  Will pay for doctor and take care of some bills.  This really is great news!  yeah

Thanks Sherrine! I have Insurance with my husband's work but it's not worth anything since I got sick! This will be a godsend with the Insurance like u said! I'm months behind on my mortgage so it will come in handy. They told me it would take 30-90 days though to get that and my checks should start in January. I have to get reviewed in 2 yrs but that's fine! Definitely good new!

Congratulations!! I'm currently in the loooonnnnggg process of disability.  I'm on my 2nd application. The first one went to hearing, which the judge denied it. That was appealed and denied. So now I'm waiitng for a 2nd hearing, which should be coming up soon.  I've been in this process since September of 2009.

I'm like you, in that some days I wonder why I applied, that maybe I could work. But then I have days like yesterday and today and I know that there is no way I could work. I would have had to call in sick for the last 2 days in a row.

It is encouraging to see others get approved. It gives me hope to keep up the fight and that hopefully I will get approved soon too.

Bubbaryn....I am so happy for you...this is great news. There isn't anything worse then being sick and having to fight so you can afford to live.

Joysotay....I hope you will be approved soon...I will keep you in my prayers.

GOOD JOB! Congrats!! I am in the process of reapplying. I was denied twice and went to hearing this past July. The hearing brought an unfavorable decision. I hired a new attorney (my 1st one was no longer interested in my case) and just refiled starting all over December 1st. I have been trying since May 09. I was 48 when I applied the 1st time and I am 50 now, so this will be a bit of hope in my favor as the laws change after one is 50. I am so happy for you and it also gives me hope when I see others who are getting the benefits which are supposed to be provided for us by our country, but are like pulling teeth to get. I worked my entire life from the time I was a car hop @15. I would LOVE to work. It was really hard on me when the judge denied me in my hearing. But, I refuse to give up!! I am smiling for you.

Yes, your age is an important facto..I was approved at 54, partly because of my age and yes, I dealt with alot of guilt and anger having to stop working-good luck springsun

Bubbaryn Congrats!!! I remember the sense of relief..I started sleeping better and worked on getting better...so happy for you and your family

Congradulations for getting your disability. I know my body has began to heal some. It's a slow process. Listen and take care of yourself. I no longer do extra church work or things out side my home. It takes all what I have to keep up my daily activity living, making a schedule for myself has helped me. I am happy for you.

Congratulations to everyone that got approved.

I feel for everyone that's been denied and I appreciate you all for posting. I might be going through the same process soon. All of your insites help so much.

Also, it's long term disability insurance and everyone's been paying for it through your paychecks your entire working lives. The government isn't giving you anything. It is our right to file the claim. Legally we had to pay for the coverage and unfortunately we have to file claims.

I'd been paying for a LT disability insurance policy through my professional association since the late 80's. I've only been working part time since the end of 2000. March of 2010 another of my health diseases flared-up, I had to stop working and the end of last year I had 2 serious surgeries plus a 3rd one in July.

I was afraid to file with my insurance company and it was nerve breaking. I didn't file until I realized I was not capable of working. They approved it and paid me back to when I got sick less the 13 week waiting period. My Internist sat down with me and filled out the initial application. I was scared to ask her to do that, she was glad to do it.

I think we are anxious about filing as we've heard so many bad stories of denial. I've had to talk to the claims manager many times. They check up on me continuously with the doctors and during my latest call with her she said we'd touch base in 6 months. That will be in March 2012.

FYI, a HR professional told me to file for insurance first, if you have it. After you get approved for that and if it looks like it is going to be longer lasting the insurance company will pay for an attorney to file for long term government benefits. When those benefits are obtained the insurance company then only has to pay the difference between the two.

@ Joysotay, keep it up! Don't give up! That's why I put this on here, to give people like you hope! I'm only 38yrs old and got it, so there's hope for everyone! I'm wishing for a speedy decision for you!

I was lucky that I live in an area that processes claims FAST! Thanks for all the well wishes and I'll be praying for those in the process! We all deserve it!

It was funny though! On my paperwork it said a review in 2 1/2yrs. and that I would get better. REALLY, is there a cure for Fibro and 2 ulnar nerve surgeries that I had?
