New here, not diagnosed but going to the doctor next week.

So my mom keeps telling me that I need to stop avoiding telling the doctor how I feel. She is suspicious that I have Fibromyalgia. I know something is wrong but I am afraid the doc will think I'm a hypochondriac. Plus I know some doctors don't believe it is even a real condition. Below are my symptoms. This is the list I made for the doctor. I would appreciate anyone's opinion on whether or not my mom's suspicions may be right.

1. Some part of my body is always hurting. Neck, upper back, lower back, hips, legs etc.
2. I have episodes where I have the same body aches you get with the flu.
3. If someone pokes me or applies pressure to an area of my body it feels like an instant bruise and is excruciating. I can still feel their finger after they stop touching me. It hurts ten times worse if I didn’t know they were going to touch me. The pain is instant.
4. I am always so tired. I wake up just as tired as I was when I went to sleep. I can sleep any amount of time and still be tired. The fatigue is so extreme it is affecting my life.
5. I have headaches at least 4 times a week if not more.
6. I have diarrhea at least 3 days out of the week. It comes out of nowhere with extreme cramps and chills.
7. My eyes are extremely sensitive to lights, not just sunlight.
8. I am never comfortable with the temperature. If others are cold then I’m hot and vice versa.
9. Hot flashes and I feel clammy.
10. Going out in the cold is painful to my entire body.
11. Depression and Anxiety that I thought was related to Postpartum but no I think different.
12. I feel like I am 80.
13. I get Charlie horses a lot more than other people and my legs are restless a lot.
14. I wake up a lot at night even though I am so sleepy.
15. My muscles twitch a lot. Arms, legs, fingers, eyes lid.
16. Sudden episode of EXTREME dizziness. I felt like the floor turned into jello and my legs wouldn’t bend. I caught myself on the wall with my hands. The view in front of me looked like someone tilted the room.
17. Dropping things all the time like my hands just let go.
18. Tripping over nothing.
19. I get dizzy when I am sitting down.
20. My memory is getting really bad. I used to be the one that could remember everything. Now I can’t even remember what I went to the store for.
21. Jaw pain, clicking
22. It hurts for me to open jars and sometimes even a door knob. It feels like I have to work so hard to open it. Then my hands hurt for a while afterward.


I know that's a lot to read but thank you to those of you that read it all. Does this sound like Fibromyalgia to you?

It sounds very much like my symptoms which came on gradually for a coupla years and eventually I was diagnosed with Fibro. Of course, we are not doctors but your list is very similar to alot of us.

BTW, welcome to the forum. Your first step, after making sure your doc believes firbto is real is excluding other conditions with some blood tests, probably. There is no definitive test for fibro.

There are lots of new meds and lifestyle changes to help you lessen the severity of your feelings, including gentle exercise, healthy diet and sleep routines. Alot of us take supplements but Sherrine is the expert on those-lol!!

Anyway, I hope you get some answers so you can start taking your life back. This is a terrific place with great people to listen..

Welcome to the fibromyalgia forum. It sure sounds like you could have fibromyalgia. If you go to fibro 101 as Maman mentioned, you will probably see yourself in the list of symptoms.

I am sorry that you are in so much pain. I know how you feel. It is every single day. I don't think I have been without pain since I started getting symptoms. But you can learn not to focus on the pain so much. And it kind of fades into the background.

Do keep moving as much as you can. It keeps you flexable. And keeps the pain down. I know sometimes you feel you can't. But you must try to push through and be as active as you can. You will suffer less in the long run.

Keep posting. I can't say if you hav fibro or not, but your symptoms sure do sound familiar. Your doctor will help you figure this out as was mentioned above, you have to rule everything else out first.

Learn to take care of you. Pace yourself as best as you can. Drink a lot of water to keep your muscles hydrated. You will feel better from it.

Welcome .....Blueeyes....It sounds like fibro to me also. If you find your doctor does not know much about fibro maybe ask to see a Rhuemy, they are quite knowledgeable when it comes to fibro. Also I agree with Applevenus on getting your vitamin D checked. Hope you get some answers next week, keep us posted.

I just want to say it sounds like you are going through alot and I am sorry for that but I do want to say that you are very fortunate to have a mother that believes in your pain. I told my Mom that the doctor wanted to treat me for fibro and my Cholesterol was high and all she heard was my Cholesterol was high. She has never brought up the subject since. She is one of those people who does not believe in it. (I am guessing) because she thinks all you have to do is get up, shower and make yourself up and go on with your day. She will tell me she must have fibro also since she has pain everyday but goes on with her life. I love my Mom and she has always been there for me but I refuse to discuss this with her because she will just think I am being a baby.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for and I will keep you in my prayers.

P.S. I would also let them know if it is muscular pain, joint pain, or both.
