Hi, Jill, and welcome! I'm glad you found us and joined our family. Fibromyalgia is a pretty miserable illness but there are things you can do to help with the pain and fatigue. As Amy said, there isn't anything out there that makes you pain-free but you can get in control of the pain and have a full and enjoyable life in spite of this illness. I know because I have.
I used to use ibuprofen with food and it really helped me a lot but, after 24 years of using it, I ended up with a stomach ulcer so now I don't take NSAID'S. I do use extra strength Tylenol, malic acid/magnesium supplements, and vitamin D3 supplements. Many with fibro are deficient in those vitamins and nutrients and that can cause more pain and fatigue. So you might want to look into that.
I hope the Savella will kick in for you. It seems that people either love it or hate it. Also, some members have had it work for them for a couple of years and then stop working and they were back to square one. I hope that doesn't happen to you. We have one member that uses Savella and has had great results with it.
You will find that what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another with fibro. It's trial and error. But, you will find something that will help you get in control of your pain and fatigue. Once you do, you will be well on your way to a full and enjoyable life.
Other things to do to help with pain is gentle exercise daily. I walk or swim. Yoga is another good gentle exercise. But, with all you are doing, you probably are getting a lot of walking in. Stretching exercises are good too along with pacing yourself. I personally find that gentle massage helps me also.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. Good starting links are called Symptoms and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. There are links about malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D3 supplements and how they work in your body. Gentle stretching exercises that can be done sitting down are on Fibro 101, too. It's packed with good information so, when you get a chance, head over to Fibro 101.
With all you are doing, a person without fibro would be fatigued! I have to give you a lot of credit for all that you are doing with your life. You are not letting illness steal your life away and that attitude goes a long way in getting in control of this illness. Keeping a positive outlook helps immensely, too. I think it helps nearly as much as medication. When I'm counting my blessings, I'm far happier than when I'm thinking about my pain. There is a good article in Fibro 101 about maintaining a positive attitude. It has some good advice and I do find myself going back to it from time to time. I hope you like it as much as I do.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
