Hello world, I am from South Africa and a long time sufferer of fibro. Gosh it is good to share my symptoms, complaints and discussions with you all. the one thing that worries me is the fact that I get light headed and am extremely sensitive the light changes, particularly from bright to low light. Is this common? I also have an unsteady gait and have a fear of falling or tripping. Watch the ground when I walk. I have good days and very bad days like today. Woke up with "fat" head, nauseous, aching all over and feeling generally unwell. that is because I had a good, fun filled day which always results in the next day being man down. Glad I joined this forum. Please share with me. janine

Welcome, Janine. Yes, I too am sensitive to light changes. Bright lights are actually painful to my eyes. It's funny, but I didn't realize it could be a part of Fibro. The longer I'm here, the more "dots I connect".

Hi, Janine. I've always loved that name!

I'm a longtime sufferer, too. Today I also feel sickish, although I doubt I have anything contagious. Slight sore throat and congestion, dragging myself around, stomach a bit queasy. I think it's just what you said, an extra-good day, with more activity than normal, and - wham - the next one is bound to be a dud.

Welcome to the forum! Have you checked out the first thread, Fibro 101? It has lots of great info for new members.

Welcome janine- I am from Alaska and long time with fibro also. I am glad you found this site. I have been very pleased here. My fibro has improved drastically since I have been here. I hope you have great results also. I think the biggest thing I have learned is to set boundaries. I have learned a wealth of information that actually shared with my Dr. The more natural remedies seems to be the best for me. I still can have some rough hours, but I know it shall pass. Staying around positive things can go a long ways to.

Hi Janine and welcome!! My mother grew up in Johannesberg many years ago-beautiful country.
I am very sensitive to light also. New is fluorescents-give me headaches and the noise is really loud to me. Welcome to the wacky world of fibro!!!

Hi, Janine, and welcome!  I'm so glad you found us and joined our family!

 

Yes, the things you are describing do happen with fibromyalgia.  We can have light sensitivity.  I, too, watch where I'm walking and have been known to walk into corners of walls.  Ouch! 

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  You probably will see yourself, too.  Good starting links are called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia.

Thank you all for responding. Here is South Africa, the doctors still seem to "poop poop" at Fibro and call it a cop out diagnosis. That irritates me so much because it is so very real and if they know so much then for goodness sake tell us otherwise. I honestly did so much research, found a physician who agreed that that is what I have and am now accepting and trying to live with it. I hate feeling like this and get quite envious of healthy people. Not nice I know but natural thoughts I guess.

I will definitely keep posting my comments.

I have just finally been diagnosed with Fibro today ( after months..of trying to figure this out. I have been asking..do I really" have Fibro? Now I know the answer. Does anyone have finger pain in the mornings? I just have finger pain. Severe" stiffness and very painful!
I have found something that "really helps though! I put in Carpal Tunnel braces, with warm leather gloves over them. It keeps the fingers straight and the pain has went from a definate 10 scale, to a 2-3. Thank goodness. I can now sleep peacefully. First time in 3 months!
I guess..that what I wonder is how, when they are stiff....they go 100 percent away in just 4-5 seconds of flexing them? I mean from a 10 scale, to a 1-2 scale in just 4-5 seconds of just moving them? Does anyone relate to this or does it makes sense that it will go away, so darn quickly?

This is to much better than FB. It is 8:21am in a very hot, humid, sunny Johannesburg 23/12/11. Our beaches are packed with holiday makers and when I see news clips of them bathing in the sea I wonder how many are sufferers of this debilitating illness and how many woman in our black community (the poverty stricken) suffer without knowing what they have due to the lack of medical aid, ignorance on the side of the rural clinics (hugely understaffed and concentrating mainly on malaria and HIV/AIDS) they visit and of course funds. Anyway don't want to sound sad, rather positive and waiting for Christmas day. Going to be a killer...lots of cooking to do, huge family to feed and entertain. Boxing day - man down I guess.

That I did not know about the light sensitivity, interesting..I too walk into walls but I am just plain clumsy but, like you, have good and bad days. Well just wanted to say hello nd welcome.

Welcome Janine!The symptoms vary so much so that chances are even if you think you are a really weird symptom of fibro, someone else here will say "oh I had that too" I've heard of sensitivity to those things but I rarely experience them. When i do its more because of a headache. Janine always feel free to bring all your problems to us - we are here to help!
