I had surgery about
ten days ago and I was wondering if anyone had really bad fibro symptoms after having surgery like I am. My whole body hurts like I was beaten and my scalp is also hurting really bad. I am wondering if this is normal or if I should call my doctor and let him know. The surgery I had was sinus surgery so my body should not hurt from that. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

I had a knee replacement 3 1/2 weeks ago and did not have any unusual FM symptoms. I find I have to keep myslef warm, bundled up, and that keeps a lot of pain at bay. I am having my usual upper arm pains.

I didn't have too much extra pain after surgery. I had a large lump removed from my breast. That doesn't mean that your pain isn't real or your not in a flare. Anything can and will bring on a flare. If you were stressed out before or after the surgery or your body felt unusual stress it can bring on a flare. It never hurts to let your doctor know that you are in more than usual pain. It could be something more that the doctor would know to look for. I hope you feel better. It's no fun having surgery then to have a flare along with it is double the agony.

I had a lot of extreme pain in my upper back, shoulder and neck after surgery and night time was worse. I went to my Doctor and he gave me a prescript
ion for the very lowest dose of amitriptylene (sp?) which I used for just a few nights and it helped a lot to get things to a managable level.

I had my gallbladder removed last year and it did not affect my fibromyalgia. So I really don't know if surgery can make it worse.

I had a significant increase in pain after my surgery for a ruptured appendix... was VERY difficult to get up to walk (even for something as small as getting to the bathroom).
A few things come to mind:
1) I had been hospitalized for more than a week before I received my diagnosis (due to me presenting with very unusual symptoms)
2) That meant I had been lying around in a hospital bed for days on end leading to the stiffness
3) Extreme stress and I think my body was in total upheaval by the time I finally went to surgery
* * *
I also had considerable trouble after my C-section many years ago (which is around the time I believe my fibro started). I thought at the time it was normal -- that everyone felt that crappy after a C-section. I've now seen countless others through the years who didn't experience anything like I did in my recovery. Was fibro the culprit? Your guess is as good as mine. I just know I felt plain lousy and hurt everywhere. Again, it was truly an effort to try to walk the hospital halls.
I hope whatever is troubling you passes quickly and that you are on the mend soon. Hugs!
