Male or female ?

I've read that males are much less likely to develop FM, than females. Like 1 in 5 (20%) ?

I'm just curious if that holds true among the members here on this forum ?

Most definitely!  I only remember about five men who have come on this forum in the seven years I've been here.

I was dx'ed about 6 months ago. My doc told me it was about 20% of fibro patients that are men. I started reading this forum around then. I registered today just so I could respond to you. You are not the only "lucky" one out there. Being a man with fibro has some differant challenges. We are expected to be tough, physicly strong, and providrs. I don't want to make it sound like we have it worse. My pain level is lower than many on the forum. It's more the reaction from family and friends. Everyone with fibro strugles with other people not understanding our limitations. I just think it's even more of a challange when you are a 37 year old guy that looks healthy and strong.

The Fibromyalgia Network just put out a magazine that talked about the possible reason that more women than men might have Fibro. It has something to do with the different ways that the brain handles fight or flight and pain signals. I'm out of state for a wedding and my magazine is at home so I'll try to do a better summarization when I get home next week. I was in too much of a fog to really understand the article before I left.
