Questions??

So I'm new to this forum!! I'm happy too be talking to all of you's. Anyways I do have a few questions!! That maybe someone can help me!! I'm 22 years old and I've had fibro for 8years now and I've been on loratab and tramadol and I'm always taking tramadol around the clock and loratab when I need it. My boyfriend and I want to start a family together and our concern is that I've been taking those two meds for so long if we can even have kids together! And if I can stop taking both of them for a 2 year period! Im looking online and getting no results! Just wondering if it's possible to get pregnant with out harming the kid! That's our biggest fear is that something will be wrong with the child or I can't have kids! Does tramadol affect that?? Before you even get pregnant?? if anyone knows??

Hello and welcome. I know that it is scary when taking medication and trying to conceive but also not wanting to be in pain. My suggestion to you is to see a maternal-fetal specialist before trying to get pregnant because they are the best at knowing what medications you can take and not harm your baby. I saw a doctor at a teaching hospital and had no problems with either of my pregnancies (I have lupus and fibro), so it can be done. Just do your research and really concentrate on what you feel comfortable doing for you and your family. Best of luck!

Hi, Jackie, and welcome! I'm glad you found us and joined in.  You have been given very good advice from our members.  Most DEFINITELY talk to your doctor first!  I did find this online about Tramadol.

 

FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether tramadol will harm an unborn baby. Tramadol may cause serious or fatal side effects in a newborn if the mother uses this medication during pregnancy or labor. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. Tramadol can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while you are taking tramadol. Do not give this medication to anyone younger than 16 years old without the advice of a doctor.
