I really appreciate everyone's thoughtful and supportive replies. I have been really, really caught up in work lately and forgot that I had posted here. I feel guilty now, to return and see all of your replies.
No progress happening on my end as far as a diagnosis goes. Had my CT scan a couple of weeks ago, and as far as I know, that was normal. I have an appointment with my Dr. this week. I have no idea what to do, to be honest. I have even resorted to cutting out sugar-free gum (a friend suggested that aspartame might cause nerve damage, and even though I am suspicious of that, at this point I will try anything; I have chewed about
a pack of sugarfree gum a day for the past several years, after quitting smoking).
Some days I am convinced it's fibro, some days I'm convinced it's MS, and on my darkest days, it's Lou Gehrig's or a brain tumour.
My strength, as far as I can tell, is not affected. I have deep, deep fatigue that has materialized this month and I have stopped doing cardio. The other day I was lugging a small bag of potting soil around Wal Mart while I shopped and the following day, my arm muscles were so sore it was like I'd done hard exercise or something.
The other thing is that i have this chronic...Tension throughout my body. Like, I'll be sitting at my desk at work and I'll realize that my shoulders are up around my ears, my thighs are completely tense, and my jaw is clenched. I also find that my hands are typically the most tense and I can make errors while typing very easily. My hands and feet are constantly cold to the point of feeling like they are burning.
Applevenus, I am really inconsistent with my reactions to alcohol. I think it depends on my cycle. Some evenings I can drink a lot and get only a little drunk and feel fine the next day. Last night, though, for example, I had a beer and felt rotten and then woke up this morning with a real hangover. I haven't had one of my "medicinal" rum and milks for ages now; lately I'll just have a couple of beers on Friday night.
My Dr. tested my magnesium and it was normal, but even so, I think I might try to integrate it into my vitamin regime just to see if it makes a difference. I take evening primrose for chronic breast pain, fish oil, a multi, and a D.
My thyroid levels tested normal, too. I do have some other weird symptoms that could indicate hormone issues -- hair on my face, weight loss, lengthening menstrual cycle, for example.
Ladym, I'd be really curious to find out what other symptoms you're going through...The facial numbness in particular has gotten me really distracted and concerned. It's really uncomfortable and mysterious.
One thing I should mention is that I have a high level of stress in my life and I do not deal with it well. My son has special needs and requires a huge amount of energy and attention, and keeping him happy while each working full-time jobs has taken a large toll on my husband and I. I have had quite a few people tell me that my symptoms could be the result of long-term stress, but doesn't that seem like too easy of an answer, particularly because of how weird all of my symptoms are??
