Hi, Britt, and welcome! I'm so glad you found us and joined in. I agree with Angel about trying a more natural approach. It can't hurt but could help.
I use ibuprofen with food, extra strength Tylenol, malic acid/magnesium supplements, vitamin D3 supplements, and an alternative pain reliever called Curamin. These help with my pain and fatigue.
You do need to keep moving with fibro. I do gentle stretching exercises, a daily gentle exercise like walking, swimming, yoga, and I pace myself when doing things. You can't do everything you did before in the same time frame. You need to do a little, rest a little and then go back to it. If you overdo, your body will scream at you. Gentle massages help me a lot, too.
Ibuprofen works like a miracle drug for me and I never understood why since fibro isn't an inflammatory illness. Finally, after having so much intense pain in my entire back and unbelievable pain going down my legs to the point I couldn't walk without tears streaming down my cheeks, I bit the bullet and saw a rheumatologist. It turned out that I have an illness in the rheumatoid arthritis family along with fibro. I'm now being treated for that and am 1,000% better. One thing they did was give me a muscle relaxant called Robaxin and that has helped me a lot. I'm telling you this because you might have something else going on along with fibro that is causing you the intense pain. I know I sure was surprised. The rheumy said he thought I've had the problem for many years but kept it under control with ibuprofen. Me? I was blaming fibro for all of it. That's so easy to do.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. Good starting links are called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. All the links are good and knowledge is power!
When my children were young, I had a table set up in the kitchen with games, puzzles, and art supplies on it. When I needed a break, I could sit down in the next room and tell my kids to go to that table and have fun. It was a lifesaver for me at the time because I was very sick with Crohn's disease and would wear out quickly. If you are tired but your little one is on high octane, take them to the park and take a lawn chair with you. You can watch them play and rest and enjoy the great outdoors.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
