I'm currently taking Savella.  It has been the first medication in 2 years of debilitating chronic pain that has given me relief.  I feel like I'm starting to get my life back except for one thing, my weight.  Although Savella isn't the worst with weight gain, I've noticed with a good diet and light exercise I still seem to be one of those people who fall into the weight gain category.  I'm almost 25 and was 100lbs when the pain first started.  Now I am 117-120lbs.  I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND I'm not overweight, but I have hypothyroidism and with fibromyalgia plus getting older I want to choose to get to a minimal amount of weight.  I have many years to battle a pain condition along with a slow metabolism.  Plus I have many expensive outfits I want to fit into and not have my husband (who at this time is our sole provider due to the condition) buy me a whole new wardrobe.  My goal is realistic, 107lbs for a 5'3 girl.  I was wondering if Wellbutrin has worked well for anyone dealing with my same problem.  I am nervous to switch to Wellbutrin especially with the success of Savella, but I would be more confident if I heard some success stories! Thank you guys :)

I was in extreme pain for 5+ years until I got to try Savella. It is the only medication that helped me feel as though I could "function" again. Before that I tried everything on the market...including Lyrica, that caused a ridiculous amount of weight gain. Since starting Savella, I have lost weight and maintained my weight for the past 6 months. Of course I still have times that my weight fluctuates but it is due to needing steroids for control of Lupus symptoms.

I am so happy that you found something that has provided relief. It is a wonderful thing to be able to do the things you want without pain. wink

I hope that you find a way to get to the weight you feel better at and still not have pain.

Wellbutrin can actually help you lose weight. But I don't know if you want to give up something that is helping you. I took effexor for many years with success. But I did gain a little weight with the fibromyalgia. Being inactive for a long time. Especially compared to what I use to do. But you have to figure in that we aren't getting any younger and it is harder to keep our weight in check as we get older.

But you were asking about wellbutrin. I did good on it until I had to raise the dosage. Then I became nervous and couldn't sleep. But that doesn't mean that will happen to you. It did give me energy and I was thin.

I was on Welbutrin when I was diagnosed. It wasn't helping with the pain. I've switched to Savella and it has helped a lot with the pain. Usually people on Savella don't have a problem with weight gain.

If savella is working for you, I would reconsider stoping it. I have the weight problem with three of my meds. I use to get upset, but all my friends and family says "you look so much happier and healthier". I am working on watching what I eat and do more excercise. I feel so good that a little extra weight is worth being in less pain. I use to take Wellbutrin and like it until I had a seizure on it. It gave me some energy in the morning. I am sure that it works on pain control.

I have a suggestion: so that more of us realize you're a newbie, why don't you start a new thread, with the title something to that effect (and telling us a bit more about yourself?)    :-) Otherwise, you might well fall through the cracks.  And no one wants that!

I understand what you guys are trying to say to me. I appreciate it. I'm sure I'm just frustrated with medications that get me "better", but not really back to myself. I'm not really gaining too much, but seem to be at a stand still which is annoying for someone who went from running 6-8 miles a day to light exercise. At least it's not Lyrica (I gained weight on that too Lupusmomma, not to mention was a crank!) Thanks for the well wishes. I will post a sort of introductory thread like you suggested Acheybody, letting everyone know my story I'm guessing? One more question, I wanted to ask if anyone has had any luck with anti-emetics other then promethazine or zofran or had experience with Reglan. Is it better I start that convo on a new thread instead of continuing this post? Sorry, I am a newbie lol and want to make sure I get savvy with this quick.
