I just discovered the site this afternoon and have found some very helpful information. At the moment we have a low front moving through the area and as the day has worn on my pain has increased. I can't seem to take enough pain medication to help on days like today. Is it just me or do many others have the same problem?

I will wake up when it's raining. My hips and joints hurt. The only problem I can't take any extra pain meds. I have been taking ibprophen too much. Now my stomach hurts.

I get pretty achey at times when it's really hot and humid out. This is where a good walk helps me get the blood flowing. As well as some gentle yoga.

If needed, I have Flexeril, a muscle relaxer, to take when it's too bad but I always use natural ways first.

It's from the lower pressure on our joints causing the pain.
You've heard old timers say "I can tell it's going to rain. I can feel it in my bones".
It's a proven scientific fact: low air pressure=joint pains increase

I hurt when a storm is coming and on full moon days. The full moon affects the water in our bodies like the tides causing swelling and inflammations.

I use Flexeril also and have added gentle exercise but on certain days nothing seems to help. I suppose that we all have days like that from time to time depending on stress levels. It is good to know that I am not the odd one out and that others have days spent doing nothing other than trying to control the pain. When I was first diagnosed I felt utterly useless spending days in bed with the thought in mind that if I did nothing to stress my parts that were hurting at the time perhaps it would help. I have learned over the last year that on some days nothing helps.

In doing endless hours of research I have learned that stress and weather cause pain but have not yet found my solution as to how to relieve the pain. Pain management Dr's are next on the list....so not looking forward to that.

Hi, Stormyone, welcome to the forum. Have you been diagnosed with this wonderful condition or do you just suspect it?

I'm one who can't pin my pain to the weather, particularly, but I know I feel better at a low altitude (and I live in Colorado - figures!)

You mentioned spending days in bed....I hope you're not doing that for fibro? We generally have to keep moving, at least somewhat, or we'll end up in more pain.

I hope you keep posting, so we can get to know you better. We really care!

the same thing happens to me i also swell up and can bairly move.
the knees really feel it> we,re in for rain tomorrow.not looking forward to a painful day.

Hello and thank you for the welcome. I was diagnosed with fibro officially in Jan of 2010. I don't spend as many days in bed as I did when I first started feeling the pain but I do still have days when it is too painful to do anything other than stay in bed. I also suffer from depression but have heard that they kinda both go together which for me is very understandable.

Kdebes11, I used to swell all over until my Dr. put me on Lyrica. It helped the swelling but has done little for the pain part of fibro. Personally I had rather not put chemicals into my body especially if I do not know what they might do in the long run. I hope that you find something that helps you soon. Today I am really very groggy from taking all the pain meds yesterday and nothing sounds better than sleep.

I spent the first two years of fibro in bed. But eventually I got on medication and can now stay awake during the day. Not everybody wants to go that route, but I can now do things and I walk everyday.

Try to get out for walks on good days and it will give you more stamina to do things on the harder days. It also makes you feel good mentally and physically. I really agree you need to move around before it gets a grip on you. You said you are feeling groggy from having to take so many pain meds yesterday. Maybe you aren't taking the right pain meds if you have to take so many to make you groggy the next day. What do you take for pain? Just curious... I try to take my meds regularly to stay on top of the pain. Not just when I am hurting badly. If you wait until you are hurting bad, it takes longer to get a grip on the pain.

Can you try getting on a regular sleep schedule to help you stay awake during the day? Do you go to bed at a certain time at night? I go to bed at 10:00 usually and get up around six or seven. That seems to work for me now. But before I would sleep all night and all day too. To the point of getting restless leg syndrome. It really was the pits.

I hope that you feel better soon and can get some restful sleep instead of what is going on now. Take care and keep posting.

Hi Karen,

Currently I am on Tramadol ( up to 8 a day) and Hydrocodone 7.5 (2 x's a day when needed). I do have days when I don't need many meds at all but then I have days when I need more than what I am prescribed. For the first 8 months or so after I was diagnosed I slept all day and then more times than not all night also. I have always had problems sleeping and currently take Ambien which I have heard that it is not a good drug for fibro. Without it I don't sleep at all.

I try on most nights to make it in bed by 10 and usually drift off by 11. Then I usually wake up around 4 a.m take my morning meds, eat breakfast and am back in bed by 6 for a nap. If it is not a bad day I am up by 9 to do household chores and make sure that my youngest (13 yr old) has breakfast. This is a summer schedule and as soon as school starts for my son my schedule will change a little to accommodate him and his schedule. I have an appt with pain management on Monday and am hoping that he has some other suggestions. I know that I am not going into REM sleep long enough for my body to recover and that I am not exercising enough. As with most things in my life since I discovered I have fibro it is all about taking baby steps to get to when one needs to be.

I'm thankful that I discovered this site and wish that I had found it sooner. Reading about how others are dealing and how others feel with fibro helps me feel not so disconnected. Thank you all for sharing and making me feel welcome.

Hi Sonia,

Tramadkol didn't help me. I took hydrocodone 10mg (norco) for many years. I am currently on percocet 7.5 and it has made a huge difference in my pain. But the doctor manipulated my left arm some when I saw him and my shoulder has been bothering me ever since. He wanted me to go into physical therapy, but I know I wont make it to three appointments a week. I just can't do it. I have tried before. I am going to try to stretch that shoulder more gently. It is funny how the slightest things can effect us.

I am glad that you joined us. This is a great group of members. And it is nice to know that you aren't alone...

PS  I have been taking ambien for sleep for many years too.  It does help me too, I wouldn't get much restful sleep without it.  I don't get super rest, but better than without.
