I guess for me, the internet is fine for research and gaining knowledge about
my diagnoses, but if I don't trust my Dr. to know more than I do after all their years in medical school and training, then I would seek another Dr.
Of course I believe it's our job to describe out symptoms to them as best as possible. This is where keeping a journal is key. Whether it's what we eat, exercise, pain, etc. The better we can detail everything to tell them the better.
When I first had the neck pain and symptoms back in 2001, I had a really great Board Certified Orthopedic surgeon and we went through all the steps that you would take with this from PT, traction, muscle relaxer....When we got the MRI done and found the severe herniations, he told me that he does not specialize in cervical fusions so he sent me to a BC Neurosurgeon. I respected him telling me this and referring me after he was out of his training/speciality.
So for me, I would be running far from a Dr. who is asking me what my treatment should be or what I think something is from the internet.
I want to have complete faith and trust in my Drs. in that they are doing everything they can to help me and then refer me to someone else if they are stumped.
This is just my personal opinion/thoughts and I respect those that feel differently than I.
