Hi, Inpaindaily, and welcome! I gave you a subject line so you will get more responses. I want to make sure the members see you have arrived!
Guess what? You can have a good life in spite of fibro. You just need to try things to see what works for you to control the pain. Obviously, Lyrica isn't working for you so I'd be on the hunt for other things. Does your doctor know you are still in a lot of pain while taking Lyrica? I'm a weird one. I don't take anything that doesn't help me or makes me feel worse so, if this were happening to me, I'd be talking to the doctor about it.
I was having extreme pain this winter and at first put it off to fibro. That's so easy to do. We do it and so do the doctors. But, I decided to see an excellent rheumatologist in my area and, boy, am I glad I did! It turns out I have another illness that was causing the extreme pain. I still have fibro but I had that too. I was treated with the proper medication and it is amazing how much better I am now. See, if I hadn't continued searching, I'd still be in a ton of pain! You and your Mom can go on a hunt together and get help so both of you feel a whole lot better.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. Knowledge is power and you do need to be your own advocate with this illness.
I use ibuprofen with food, extra strength Tylenol, malic acid/magnesium supplements, vitamin D3 supplements, and an alternative product called Curamin. I also take a prescription muscle relaxer called Robaxin and that has helped me immensely. There are links in Fibro 101 about the malic acid/magnesium and vitamin D3 supplements and how they work in your body.
Also, gentle exercises is very good for fibro. If you sit or lay too much, you will be stiff as a board and have more pain. Good gentle exercises are walking, swimming, and yoga. I walk and, even though I don't feel like heading out the door in the morning for a walk, I do it because I have less pain and less fatigue by the time I get home. Besides, I love looking at all the beauty that is around me and that helps me feel better, too.
Keeping a positive attitude has helped me as much as any medication. We all have many good things...blessings...in our lives but many times just focus on the negative things. This can help bring on anxiety and depression and I sure don't want that. I have had both at times in my life. There is a link in Fibro 101 about maintaining a positive attitude and I do refer back to that a lot. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.
Pacing yourself when doing things helps, too. I will do a little, rest, do a little more and it all gets done but in a different time frame. Your body will thank you for that.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you...and your Mom...soon!
