Laura, I can only speak from my own personal experience, but I have had Fibro for 22 years, and it sucks ! 3 years ago, I was more than 100 lbs over weight, BP sky high, cholesterol rediculous.... But none of that caused me anything near the suffering that my Fibro did. Name a pain, in a part of your body that your Fibro has hurt. 90% chance I had that too, or something close, at least in that area....
In short, I was on track to an early grave, and my Fibro made me so miserable, I was ready for it, but when praying I would die from a massive heart attack or stroke didn't work...... I had to take matters into my own hands.
In late Oct. 09' I had an epiphany {I never use that word except here :) LOL}
But basically, in one fleeting moment, I had a crystal clear vision that told me I could be miserable for a few more years until I did have a heart attack or stroke.... Or, I could flat out change my whole life from one extreme of poor health and fitness, to the other extreme of fitness addict, and health food freak :)
Obviously I didn't actually change everything in a day. It took me 2 years of the last 34 months, to really get into the groove of working out hard, cardio + resistance, but then also, learning what foods are best to eat (and learning how to be a good cook ;)}. And strangely enough, the really clean, healthy diet of say > a fitness instructor, or figure model, also turns out to be quite healthy for Fibro people. Certainly has been for me.
But Laura, I have to tell you two things.... 1) Fibro is different for everybody ! This may only help you a little, or maybe not at all.
2) It took me at least 12 months to knock my IBS {although it showed some improvement pretty fast} into complete submission, and 18 months to put my Fibro in 95% remission. And I'm talking about working out and eating like a freak, religiously ! {snapping and becoming totally obsessed with something... anything, is totally my thing ;) I have OCD < And they call this is "disorder"..... Hmmn. Okay. But I think their are worse things to be obsessed over, than ones health.
BTW, I still get little oddball pains, like nails stuck in my flesh here or there, or an instant stinging, like I'm being stung by a bee or something goofy... but compared to the old days, Ha ! This is nothing ! I even consider it a good little reminder, that if I ever fall off of this fitness wagon, my Fibro and IBS would almost certainly come back with a vengeance.
And I am NOT going to let that happen.
I suffered for 22 years of my life with that BS. No more for me.
But if you did everything I have, and it only helped you 50% as much as it has me, that would probably be worth it, right ?
Oh, and one more thing, if you want to know what I call a fanatically healthy diet, I recently posted it on here somewhere. Do a search. It should find it....
Or heck, I would rewrite that for you if you needed me too. Oh.... and actually, their was a recent post with a link to an article about a good Fibro diet, and I was totally, and pleasantly surprised at how I agreed with 90% of the foods they listed. So funny that I should come to such a close conclusion that the article, all on my own.
In any case, hang in there Laura. Everyone on this forum knows exactly how you feel
Peace,
Fish
