Does anyone else get really sharp chest pains?

I've been to the hospital for my chest pains before. Had an ECG and an x-ray but nothing 'wrong' could be found. However I still have the chest pain sometimes. It comes on suddenly and is really sharp, ususlly on the left side and it makes breathing hurt- or rather breathing makes the pain worse. I can only assume it's my FMS. I doubt it's a heart attack because I'm only 19 and stuff, but it still scares me to no end.

Since I was pregnant with my dd many years ago (1986) i have had terrible chest pains at times. My mom gets them too. They call it chest wall pain. It is inflammation in the chest wall lining. I am suffering with it right now. Dh helped me off the bed the other night by pulling on my left arm. Within an hour, i was in terrible pain. I had a heart attack in April, so at first i was scared. Then he reminded me that he had pulled on that arm. I took some tylenol and used some biofreeze and it helped. Hard to lay on that side. Mom said if it feels sore to the touch it is probly this.

My cardio said most of the time the pain in my chest will be caused by the fibro, but not to take chances. Heart attacks can be hard to detect esp in women. Better to have it checked out.

I can't tell if it is sore to the touch right now as I am rather sunburnt. The part that scares me most is that I often have multiple things going on at once, and the symptoms mirror worse things. Like for instance, right now I'm really shaky and weak feeling as well as nauseous for what I think is low blood sugar due to eating supper really late. We haven't eaten yet and it's 9pm. But this plus the chest pain and my ever persistent headaches- I need a vacation.

Has your rhuemy ruled out Lupus? My lupus causes headaches, shakes, and odd pains.

I do get odd pains in my chest.

I would recommend talking to your dr as soon as possible. I have started writing things down as i feel them so i can remember to ask. I tend to blame most things on the fibro. The night i went to the er, i felt an urgency to go if that makes any sense. I was throwing up for 2 hrs and chest hurting. then my arm started tingling. I thought i was just dehydrated from throwing up. Apparently i was having a heart attack.
If you do not want to go to the er, call your primary care first thing in morning. Get a suggestion from them. Hope you feel better soon.

I have an appointment with my doctor on the 7th. And it's just my usual doctor. I only ever saw a Rheumatologist once. And it was just my diagnosis. She didn't do much. I went to a fibromyalgia course, didn't teach me anything I didn't already know. I'm a very anxious person and do have frequent panic attacks and such, especially when I have nausea or stomach pain that wakes me up, or I wake up to. (Terrified of throwing up) I don't think I've been diagnosed with everything that ails me yet. I show many IBS symptoms, but also have many upper GI tract pains and problems which can't be IBS. Maybe it's stress. We also have black mold in our house which a few sources I found state many of my symptoms. I'm also being checked for lead poisoning. Supposedly individuals with FM are more suseptible to heavy metal poisoning. I guess now I'm just rambling, I've just never had much of anywhere to say all this sincw none of my friends understand.

Hi Kari,

I had days of horrible chest pain in one specific area which made it difficult for me breathe. I had a few tests done, like an EKG and nothing showed up. He even put me on a new inhaler. That along with other inhalers in the past did help. Only made me shaky.

Then I went to my chiropractor, he said I had a rib out of adjustment and sure enough, after his treatment the pain was gone.

If I'm not feeling well because I haven't had the opportunity to eat, I make sure I have something like a Kashi bar.

Hi, Kari, and welcome!  My doctor is more thorough.  I was having just heart palpitations and he gave me the electorcardiogram, and echocardiogram, and ultrasound of my heart, and had me wear a monitor for 24 hours.  If you don't get a decent response from your doctor, you might want to see a cardiologist.  It would be very rare for a person to have heart problems at your age but it could give you peace of mind.  That makes it worth it....expecially since you suffer from anxiety, too.  Too many times things are blamed on fibro. 

 

I hope you were run through a myriad of tests before you were diagnosed with fibromyalgia.  You see, fibro has many of the same symptoms as other illnesses that are treated differently than fibro.  There are no tests for fibro so those have to be ruled out first. 

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  Good starting links are called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia.  You just might see yourself there.

Hi Kari! I have flares of Costochondritis. This condition for me makes me feel like I'm having a heart attack sometimes due to the constant pain. If you google it and it sounds familiar please ask your doctor. I have panic attacks and anxiety too, if you need an ear just let me know. Take care and let us know how it goes.

Costochonditis is also called chest wall pain. It hurts very badly. Trying to lay on my left side the past few nights have been hard due to pain. I am top heavy and dh has even suggested I wear a sports bra around the house because he thinks my sagging breast might be pulling on the muscles in my chest. I am a 48 ur old out of shape old lady who loves to run around in old tshirt and warm up pants and this is the first time in almost 30 yrs of marriage he has ever suggested I put ON clothes. Lol a nurse told me if in doubt, check it out

My whole life I've gotten stabbing chest pains, rarely in the same place, that made it difficult to breath. A stabbing sensation between my ribs. I've been through every test imaginable-- only turned up a slight arythmia (can never spell medical stuff right). I discovered years ago that breathing out was much harder than breathing in, so I concentrate on the in breath. Discover what way is better for you and breathe through it. Be sure to see your Dr. and make sure it is nothing severe for sure.
