Hello, I'm Kim and was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia early 2011, the doctor and i discussed the possibility of it being cause by my epidural disaster in jan 2009. I was receiving an epidural and the student that i was coerced into letting do it (I was very firm that i didnt want her doing it and after 15 minutes of badgering, i relented, I was in labor for pete's sake! That hospital is a joke.) She stuck me in a nerve 6 different times and each time i felt like i was on fire, but couldn't move! I was telling her and cussing and told me to Hush! Can you believe that? anyway.. Saying hello and I'm here for any questions or asking to receive advice. ( new to the smileys--)

Hi and welcome to the forum! I'm a forum newburgh, too! I really like the people here. They are very compassionate and have given me some great advice already!
You've had fibro since 2011? Do you feel like your symptoms are under control? If so, what meds are you taking? I know they have some really great information in the fibromyalgia 101 thread at the top of this forum. I'm sure others will be by shortly to welcome you! :)

Welcome to the Friendly Fibro Forum. We really are friendly and we do care - reading about your epidural just about made me feel the pain again :( Oh, my....someone should have been profusely apologizing to you, not telling you to hush!! I hope you filed a complaint? Anyway....I'd be interested in hearing what your doctor thinks.

I had an epidural in 1989, which worked in that it did numb me (though I was then rushed into an emergency C-Section because my daughter's heartbeat slowed way down, so it was a waste) and then had horrible pain in that exact point in my spine for about 2 years. Oh no, they all said - couldn't have caused either her distress OR my pain. Mmm-hmm.  How can they be so dang sure?

Have you had a chance to check out Fibro 101, 1st thread on the list? It's very informative, on all kinds of topics pertaining to Fibro. Hope to hear more from you soon.

Welcome Kim, I am glad you joined this site. I have learned so much myself and continue to learn a wealth of info. We all are very different, but we do have so much in common. I never thought I would get control of my fibro, but I have. I hope you can achieve the same. The support really helps here. It doesn't feel like your alone. I hope to see you back.

Hi, Kim, and welcome!  I can't believe they let a student give an epidural!  I would have been in the hospital administrator's office as soon as I was able to walk!  There is no excuse for that.  I'm not even sure if it is legal...especially since you said you didn't want her doing it.  Then she tells you to be quiet!  Oh, man!

 

Traumatic things seem to trigger fibro in some people so this could be a possibility.  We will never know for sure what caused our individual fibro...until they find out what causes it to begin with.  I didn't have anything traumatic going on.  I just started hurting while watching TV and here I am, 25 years later, still having pain. 

 

Many have directed you to Fibro 101...the first threat on the forum.  Please read that.  There is a world of information there and helpful suggestions, too.

I recently heard that fibro may be linked as a developement to a trauma to the body. Whether that is true or not, I honestly don't know. I do hope you keep talking to us. Welcome to the group, keep posting

Thanks for all the welcomes and the tip for the Fibro 101, I'll have to check it out. Well The epidural incident was the only trauma i had to the same area in my back. preggy pains were different. I've been to several doctors, a pain management who i stopped seeing cause she kept persuading me to take antidepressants even when i wasn't depressed, just anxiety and moody. If i wasn't in pain, Im very bubbly. I went back to my reg doc and now she's refferring me to a rheumotologist to continue my Tramadol 200-300mg and gabapentin 1200mg a day. If i can't get into the rheumo by the time they run out this month, I"M SUNK cause she says she can't prescribe me any more cause its still a class 3 ( umm anyone have any info on that?). I've been on the tramadol for 2/3 years now and I've been cut off due to insurance crap and i've got three small kids to raise and it was AWFUL! Even with my TENS unit, I still have alot of back pain. Hello to everyone and hope to hear from ya'll soon.

Hi all (new here as well), My wife has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and she wants to talk to other people with the same symptoms. Lisa doesn't have much personal computing experience other than a work computer which basically is a dumb terminal. Lisa had a poke through on a spinal epidural back in 2004 and her symptoms have progressively gotten worse over the years. Is there a chat room on this site, if not I'll just give her my laptop and she can type a question or just read posts. BTW I do help around the house, I'm a very supportive hubby, Rod. :-)

There is a chat room you can find it on the forum's main page. If she wants she can type in her questions here for posting.
She needs to go to this forum's main page and click on "post new topic" button. She can type in her information and questions then click "submit" and it will start a new thread just for her questions and introduction.

Thank you Joy, I found it. I created a chat room so we kow how it works. In the mean time I'll have Lisa read over the Fibro 101. Does anyone else agree that a Fobromyalgia is a scapegoat for a diagnosis? It's almost defiant to any treatment Lisa has tried.

Surfermom- I just wanted to refer to your question about the tramadol. Some Dr's licence only can write certain drug classes and for so long. They are being monitored on what they write and for what reason. Some Dr's would rather past the buck then be involed too much. Just be careful with the tramadol. I was getting the max and I had a grandmal seizure on them. The neurologist told me that it's not uncommon to have seizures with tramadol. It also interacts wrong with other drugs causing seizures. I don't want to scare you, but it happen to me. It was a regular Dr. writing my scripts. Fibromites have a tendency to be senstive to seizures.

I luckily haven't had any, even though my mother has epilepsy. I've had them a couple times when I've hit my head when i was young. Anyone have any connection with ADD/ADHD with Fibro? My doc says no, but I've heard testimasts. I finally after all these years went for add and was diagnosed, i guess the stress and not being able to focus and when everyone starts talking whether there 20 feet or 2 ft in front of me, i hear them all at once, and then goes the headache thats ALWAYS there in the background. Sigh. It helps with the fog but not with the pain. I gotta make lists or i forget. It's hard to distinguish my add symtoms to my fibro symtoms. I'm running out of options i guess for the pain, and i can't take ibuprophen it tears my stomach up. I Normally take 200mg of tramadol a day, spacing them apart, but i feel like a throbbing, knife stabbing, rock and the headaches gets worse. The come from the top left part of my head above my eyebrow/ temple. Any other remedies you guys have tried?
