Detox - is it worth it?

My doctor has put me on the Herbalogica Fibromyalgia Detox. It consists of a lot of juicing days with no other food, and at the most I can only eat raw fruits, raw or steamed veggies, and nut & seeds, in addition to fresh juice from raw veggies.
I've tried just about everything else under the sun to get better to no avail. So I'm doing a few last ditch efforts before moving on to pain meds. I am just so hungry and unsatisfied. I think about other food I'm not supposed to eat ALL the time!
Have any of you done a detox? Good, bad, or no results? This detox is for 8 weeks, and it's only been 1.5 weeks.

It's because you're getting no carbs. Carbs fill us up and provide us will sugar and quick energy.
I've never tried detox diet though. Most sound too strict for me.

To get rid of the toxins, get my hormones balanced, rebuild the immune system, things like that.

After I was told if I ate another shrimp again I could wind up in the ER. I craved shrimp all of the time for years.
You might just have to bite the bullet if doctor thinks it best.

You should never do something like this without consulting your physician...

I, personally, would only do something like this to clean out the colon, for a bit of weight loss, or to give you a bit of energy if you have become sluggish with too much junk food....but there isn't any proof that this is helpful for Fibromyalgia whatsoever..

Please read the Fibro 101 sticky on the top of the board...There are many ways to actually help Fibro symptoms and not have to go on pain meds...Not that they can't be helpful....but to say that it's either this Detox or meds...that seems quite strange and don't know what type of Dr. is telling you this...

For me...I only use a muscle relaxer...Flexeril...as needed on those really bad spasm days..

But I use daily exercise, yoga/stretching, acupuncture, massage, aqua therapy, ice, heat, getting a good night's sleep, and keeping stress at bay to help my Fibro.

I actually moved to eating all organic two years ago...but more because I was having a sluggish colon and just not feeling well energy wise. So I wanted to give up all the artificial ingredients and preservatives..I gradually moved towards this so it wasn't an all or nothing deal in a day..LOL..

And I am not a vegan or vegetarian...I do limit any meat to once a week but I eat lots of fish..I stay away from simple carbs..and only eat complex ones...And limit sugar and salt..

I'm not perfect but I have seen a noticeable difference in my energy levels, stomach issues, and intestinal issues..

But please don't believe any hype out there that there is one magic thing like a detox or one pain med to cure Fibro or solve all the symptoms...It takes a whole bunch of things.

Thank you. I have read the Fibro 101 sticky. I have had this for 8 years and have tried everything you listed and more. Tramadol was mentioned, but we are holding off while I finish physical therapy (not helping), have a sleep study (waiting on results), do the detox (oh- thankfully, I can have oil & vinegar dressing on some days), try Cellgevity and some other supplements mentioned in the sticky, and try Lexapro again (it's been almost a month).

Jessica, my concern for you is ...Does this diet provide adequate protein? Protein is so important in maintaining all the body's tissue...heart, brain and other internal organs along with our muscles.

I have never done a strict detox before...there are certain nutrients that are vital to us...carbos,fat,protein, vitamins, minerals and water. They all have their own important function.

Let your doctor know you are hungry and feeling unsatisfied.

Thanks for the explanation. I am assuming this is a holistic doctor? One who both tries to follow more natural solutions in conjuction with a medical degree.

I would agree with the protein comment.

Eh, I'm personally skeptical of "detox" therapies. I can't imagine anything that is so restrictive can be good for your body. Also, there is no evidence I've seen to support the theory that fibro is caused by toxins. Obviously you know what is best for you, I'm just saying don't put all your eggs in this basket.

I am on board for detoxing thru juicing and supplements. I am currently seeing a homeopathic doctor and I am using cilantro, parasite and lyme detox as well as lymp drainage formula. I have been doing it for 24 days but only with juicing once a day and then eating. I feel juicing more and just eating fresh fruits and veggies will make the detox go better and I have been under tremendous stress the past three weeks especially financially so I haven't bought the necessary fruits and veggies. If you get a chance watch the movie "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". I believe the body can heal itself thru detoxing but that is just my beliefs and I know not everyone agrees with that. When I go to the grocery store this week, I plan to do more juicing. I go back to the doctor on November 11th so I will let you know how it goes.

Oh and you can get adequate protein according to Dr. Joel Fuhrman "Eat to Live" by eating kale, broccoli and other greens or you could use a protein powder in your juices or smoothies.

Sawa....how does the detox work with the medications that you take? I think you take both Tramadol and Xanax? I've always heard that it can be more dangerous when on meds and doing serious detoxing...Your Dr. is on board?

I stopped taking the xanax and tramadol right now during the detox.  I do take flexeril when necessary while detoxing and blood pressure med and my doctor said it was okay.  I have to drink alot of water with these homeopathic meds to help detox.  Like I said I'll let everyone know how I am doing when I return to this doctor in November.  One thing I can say is I haven't had a single migraine since doing the detox and I have more energy but I currently still have pain so I take 1/2 flexeril some nights.

Thanks for sharing...I wondered how it worked with certain meds...

I think we can all agree that any type of detox should be run by our Drs. first.

I don't do them...but I do juicing a few times a week. LOVE my juicer!!! It's a great boost of energy drink of my green apple, fresh spinach, a bit of parsley and carrots. Yummy:) Anything with juicing you only taste the nice sweet apples..
