Hi everyone....

sorry its taken a while to tell you all how surgery went. But i have not had a good time of it mad

It started when i woke up from surgery, i woke up literaly screaming and saying omg what have you done.....It was the worsed pain ever. shocked

That latested for what seemed like hours before i could get enough pain relief top stop moaning. mad

So then the next few days in hospital were very painful, but was discharged on time....But then, 4 days later i had terrible constapation which sent me to emergency, then the next day to hospital with a bowel opstruction when, sorry for this grafic detail nono   but i vomited my own poo for 6 hrs before i got a doc to see me. mad

I was in for 6 days, and lucky so far i missed needing more surgury, because my bowel unkinked naturaly. :-)

I got home yesturday, but im still in alot of pain and VERY nervous for i have not had a bowel movment for the last 3 days, but they still sent me home.

I am so scared of going through all that pain again or more surgery, and im home alone, because my husband had to travel to the city for work, so i finaly got my sore tired sad arse to the computer to share, obviously way too much with you lovely people.. blush

The saddest thing for me with these doc's (with no compassion some of them, thank god for nurses, they are hero's in my eyes) is it took them ages to relise that fibro was a factor in the servere pain i was ecperencing.. nono

(sorry for the exstreme use of emoticons, but they are cheering me up)

Azumi,
I am really sorry to hear that you went thru such a bad time during your surgery. The worst thing is waking up from a state of sleep esp surgery, and being in so much pain.
I can't even begin to imagine what you went thru from your bowel obstruction. Sounds really terrible. I didn't even know that you could vomit your own bowels.
I hope you are on a road to recovery. I also hope you pain is less and less every day. I hate when the doctors act like they have no compassion. I guess they do what they do everyday and become numb some what- even though that is certainly no excuse. I'll be saying prayers for your safe recovery.

My mom had a bowel obstruction and they pumped her stomach for three days. Did they pump your stomach any?

Sorry you were in such misery. Are you taking anything for the consipation? Pain medicine can slow you down real bad sometimes. Are you restricted to liquid diet until you get a movement? My mother was...

Awww, Azumi, YOU are a lovely person!  I don't remember what your surgery was for - -

I know what you mean about so many doctors - they can be so arrogant, not listening, acting as though you were nothing but another case to solve - and I agree, nurses are usually the compassionate ones who really help you.

Did you ever see "The Doctor," with William Hurt?  He was a typical jerk doctor  rolleyes   until he got cancer and learned first-hand what it was like to be on the other side.  It changed him much for the better.

So sorry you're having so much pain!!  sad  

It's no fun to have pain in that area - I do too, for a different reason - I have a ruptured disc (and had surgery,  but just to the left of my tailbone, it still hurts like the dickens every time I get up from sitting.)  Do you have one of those doughnut things to sit on?

Azumi- Wow you have been through a lot. When others ask about surgery having fibro I hate to scare them. I respond horrible to surgery and heal very slowely. Next time you have surgery talk with your Dr. and arranged pain management to cover you. They do so much better then the surgeons. If they say I am only going to stay for a short time, I can almost bet you that I have to stay extra days. I have put off a few surgeries just because I get so sick afterwards. Make sure you drink lots of water and ambulate for your bowels. I am glad your on the mend. Take care of yourself.

Yes Joy, i had a tube down to my stomach to pump out the flued out for 2 days. The sweet relief that was after 8 hrs of vomiting. I am trying to cut back on my pain meds (which is hard) to help, but i still, 4 days later still havent had a bowel movement which is worrying me, but the gyno that did the surgery rang me this morn and said if i havent gone by sunday to go to a & e ..........

wow sorry side bar guys, i have entertainment tonight on in the background and the woman who was the living barbie on oprah years ago, was on a were are the now with her over wieght and with fibro.....she said the doc said that wieght gain was a side affect of fibro! i think pills are, i just cant get over the 2 million things people say about it......

anyhoo back to me, and joy a liquid diet i was on for 2 days, but now its still all soft diet.

The hsyterectomy dw though seems to be heeling well but still very sore. Im the same as u ak angel any surgury is terribly painful and takes a LONG time to recover from.....

thanks hopegirl and debbie i loved the doctor,  it is a lesson for all of us to remeber to walk a mile in someone elses shoes, and a doughnut for my bum sounds soooo awesommmmee right now cry

azumi- as a retired nurse I am cocerned about your bowels. Make sure you stay on top of that. Do you know a nurse friend that can help you? She could listen to your gut and see if you have bowel sounds. If you eat soft food with little bowel sounds it could make things a little rocky. That is why ambulating will help stimulate them and fluids. If your Dr. giving you any meds like a stool softner? Take it easy!

I hear u ak...

Im getting more and more concerned myself as the day goes on. I was not happy with the care and advice of the surgens! they said when they took the tube out to go back to a normal diet confused I could hardely eat still at the time.

i have passed some wind but with great difficaultly, and will only be having some fruche for dinner.

Me poor freeked out hubby will finally get home tommorrow and i have a bad feeling it will be just to talke me back to hospital........ cry

I have stopped my endone to help me poop, and im in so much pain now i hate it.

Thanks for being there ak, for i was feeling scared and alone.

azummi- If your passinng some gas then that is a good sign. The meds are probably keeping it very slow. They call t that a narcotic bowel. The anethesia is the start of the problem and inmobility and then the meds. I use to work on a surgery floor. We had this problem all the time. I am not sure if you live in the United States are have acess to a over counter stool suppository called Dulcolax. It works wonders for your problem. It doesn't really cramp you and works well. If you decide, dont take the pills. You need something for your lower gut. You can ask your Dr. about them. They use them all the time on the surgery floor. Heavy food will make you bloat because your bowels are sluggish.

This is why it's important to have an internist Dr. after surgery. The surgeons do well in their job, but when you have complicated people like us they dont know how to get you through this or take the time.

I live in australia, hence my late replies....im still not eating much, i had no dinner last night for i was way to bloated from liquid....its the 6th day and i will be probably be going back to hospital later today, on my doc's advice...Im still hopeful of a poop... ive been walking and doing all the things im supposed to do.
I cant drive yet from surgery and my husbands away and gets back this arvo, so getting to chemists is hard.
Im struggling for my father has now not got long to live and me being ill like this is a major pain in the bum! (dont u love a good pun) my mother doest drive so it makes everything harder....
Dont worry the is noooooo heavy food going on here, Im lucky to eat!!!

Hi guys,

sorry for late reply ive been in and out of bed the last few days shakehead

I did go back to hospital, and got an enima that was a great relief, and then to go back into full on spasmodic pain again..

They finaly gave me laxitives that have been slow in working...

I hear you deepwell but my fibro ibs probs have allways been to much bowel movement, so this is a different experiance for me....

I try to walk around as much as i can with no real result. So I just have to ride this time out with as much paitence as I can....

Thanks for everyone advice and kind thoughts and and keep em coming :-)

I've had enough bowel problems to know they can feel just plain horrid. My mom was in the ER because of these issues many times, too - so I do feel for you.

Tomorrow's a new day ~ may it be a better one for you!!

Azumi- glad your doing fair. Your troubles are the exact reason why I don't have surgery. My body does the same thing. Everything goes crazy. I have a history of throwing blood clots, so that is another reason for me. Hopefully you can eat now. Lol

The bad news is my fibro is bad at the moment, but hay the devil you know is better than what i was going through.

An interesting fact though is after surgery and the recovery, I had no and i mean no joint pain whatso ever....I found that odd...I didnt know if that was because i was on a magic number in pain meds, or that the focus was elswhere in my body. But i do think it is a interesting fact that is worth some doctors study....But its all back now.
