Hi, Der4Christ, and welcome! You sure have a lot on your plate and it's amazing that you have done what you have done. I would definitely talk to the advisor and get suggestions from them. You didn't ask for this illness and you should be proud of what you have accomplished so far. But there might be things they can suggest to help you achieve your goals. You aren't the first student that has had chronic pain and fatigue so there could be things you just don't know about yet. I sure hope so! I have to give you a lot of credit for even trying like you are.
We had a member who was suffering like you are and when she went to college she was able to get help and understanding for her condition. I haven't heard from her in quite a while so things must be going really good.
Do you have the summer months off? I was on semesters in college and then they switched to quarters but we did have summers off. If so, can you take some of your needed courses on line from your school during the summer months? That would help lighten your load. I'm assuming, from your age, that you are a sophomore or possibly a junior and still have a year or two to go. You see, pacing yourself works really well with fibro patients. It all gets done but in a different time frame and trying to lighten the load is close to pacing yourself.
Also, many people do get their degrees from on line universities and those degrees are just as good as the expensive ones...at least that is my understanding. That might help you if you find you can't keep up with the curriculum that your school is having you do. It's less expensive, too. Just a thought.....
I know you will reach your goals. You sound driven and that's great! This is a rough time for you but things should slow down in a couple more years and you will be learning how to work around fibro to do the things you want to do for the most part. Your positive outlook is a huge plus with this illness so keep it up!
Now, things that have helped me with fatigue are malic acid/magnesium supplements (some people only take magnesium but it really helps with fatigue) and vitamin D3 supplements. The first thread at the top of the forum is called Fibro 101 and there are links about these supplements and how they work in your body so you might want to check it out. In your spare time ( ) read Fibro 101 because there is a wealth of information there and some could possible help you.
You need to talk to your doctor about your pain, though. It doesn't sound like the medication you are taking is helping you. I would call now and not wait for another month. You are trying to do everything. There are medications out there that have helped a lot of people. You just have to find the right one for you. Hopefully the next trial of medications will be spot on.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
