Stupid sleeping issue

So, about a year ago, I was taking my generic ambien with some tramadol at night. I had trouble sleeping through the night... I woke up a lot and had dreams, very vivid, and would chew on my tongue. One night, I had a headache, so swapped tramadol for some BC powders. Islept through the night deeply.

Hunh, thought I. Maybe it is a coincidink? Next night ambien and some naproxen. No waking. Talked to my doc, but she would talk of no painkillers but tramadol. Okay. But I am not supposed to be taking OTC anti inflammatories, due to the IBD. So, I didn't. Take any painkillers at night. I slept okay, usually, unless the pain was excessive, and the kept me up.

Over the past six months, I have been using a half hydrocodone 5. At night. Works quite well for both pain killing and sleeping. I am
not happy about taking them nightly, though. So, tonight, I was in relatively low painI decided to try a tramadol again.

So, now in no pain, a swollen tongue, and awake. Tired, as I keep having to go back and correct typos. But awake. Urgh. At least tomorrow is a low-stuff to do day.

I had been taking elavil but my psychologist changed my medication and now I'm not sleeping anymore. It's such an aggravating of no sleep equaling more pain and more pain equaling even less sleep. Then you have some doctors that don't seem to understand the frustration involved.

I too have a sleep problem and sleeping pills do not work for mr You mentioned Aspirin, and then Aleve , well that is not Aspirin and its very irritating to the stomach and many people have an allergic reaction to it. My son 34 at the time took two the first time and ended up in the ER, his blood pressure was off the charts he could barely breath. Doc asked him what he had eaten and he said his normal breakfast which perplexed the Dc and then he said well I did take two Aleve because I'm off to play golf, thats all he had to say, he gave him an injection of Cortosone I think. and told Phil that he gets at least one patient a week in the ER for the same thing. My daughters friend was over for tea one day and she was itching all over and had hives, she asked my daughter if she would have any idea what it could be. Of course my daughter 45 said no but lets call my Mom we all call her Dc Jan. They called me and I asked what she had taken and when she said Aleve I said "thats it" people are highly allergic to it. take 2 benadryl and the hives and itching will stop. After that she was fine. Sorry to you all I am new at this sight and can't seem to say things on paper in a few words. worst of all I am the worlds worst speller.I am sorry for that everyone has so much pain. It took four years for the medical profession[and many tests] to come up with Fibro. I also have really bad Arthritis every where for which I take 7.5/325 percocet it works great and Cymbalta for the fibro, its a God send and has made a huge difference in my life since its also an SSRI.Its Valentines day so love and smiles to all. I have learned a lot from this sight and its nice to know I am not alone. Cheer's!

for sleep meds that you develop a dependence on (the dosage doesn't work any longer and when you don't take it you get insomnia) my doctor recommends taking half a dose one night, full dose the next. I did this for two weeks, then cut it in half again and did it another two weeks, kept doing that till I was off of it (that was klonopin- hard to get off of). Now I am doing a taper down of Ambien (half then whole).

For me, it seems to be that the tramadol interacts with the generic ambien. I noted this effect a year ago, and stopped taking tramadol at night. Then, the ambien works fine.

My doctor told me that, for some, tramadol can have a stimulating effect. Well, with me it does.

I cannot take OTC painkillers daily, due to my IBDs. I will use them for a bad headache periodically, but that is it. When I use them for more than a few days, my colon flares. I do NOT take different types of painkillers together.

Sleep disruption is a large symptom of my fibro. Since I work full-time, I need my sleep or else I cannot get through the day. Since I didn't have much scheduled today, I tried again last night to see if, once again, I was awake after taking both ambien and tramadol together. Sure enough, I was.
