Hi there,
Yes, I have been dx with meralgia paresthetica..boy thats a mouth full. I can never remember how to pronounce it..One of my first symptoms was this horrible burning, tingling and numbness I felt in my left buttock and in my groin. I would try to explain that I felt as if I had been riding on our motorcycle for days or a horse. Some days it felt as if my bottom was going to fall out. It hasn't been that bad in a while thank you God!! But the burning sensation has always been there, never ever gone away. In fact now it goes down into my left foot. I am on neurontin 600 mg, 3x a day. Everyone says that don't know how I am functioning, plus percocet for the pain. I respond unfortunately this is the only way I am functioning is with the help of these meds.
I have been to a neurosurgeon and have injections into the nerve but it hasn't helped me. The only other option is surgery which I won't do. There are to many other nerves in that area and God forbid one wrong snip and things would be much worse. So, I live with it, along with the fibro and RA.
I too was told that it was caused by being over weight and too tight of clothing. When this all came on me I was the healthiest I've ever been in my life. But I was overweight in previous years. When it gets down to it, who knows, when, where or even how? My new motto, "it is what it is". I am determined to do my part and trust God to do His!
I am very sympathetic to your pain, because if it's like mine it never ends and sometimes is debilitating. One of my best friends is Bio Freeze, rub a dub dub!! Also, I'm learning about a topical magnesium gel. I am starting to apply that everyday. All we can do is keep on keepin on...and trust me, I'm talking to myself this morning. It has been difficult days for me lately... Keep in touch and I pray that you feel better soon!!!
oh btw, the topical magnesium I purchased was through Bioinnovations.com but I'm sure you can find it at other places..
I am determined to live my best life NOW!!!
