Got to get a lawyer

I'm sorry you were rejected but I think a lot of people end up having to get a lawyer. Make sure you have all your doctor's names, job information, and your denial letter when you go to the lawyer.
Just try to be positive. I know it's a huge financial burden to have to wait but hopefully it won't take much longer. Gods wishes to you, Joy.

I'm so sorry!  I think it has become extremely difficult to get SS disability these days because so many are trying to get it.  People who had illnesses and could work that have now lost their jobs are trying to get it.  So when people like you and bwfm who can't work come along, you are thrown in the same pile of paperwork.  You WERE working but couldn't handle it because of your illnesses!  It's really a shame.

 

I'm seeing more and more people having to get attorneys for disability...people who really should qualify the first time they apply!  The attorneys are the only ones profitting from this.

 

I'll be praying for both of you that you do get this quickly.

Getting a lawyer is the best thing you can do right now. And they only take your case if they feel that you will win because they take a percentage of the money you get. Back pay, lump sums, not your monthly benefits.

I was 52 when I got disability but I had other illness, too...including a major hearing loss. Also, my husband had died so they just gave me SS early which did hurt me because I only get 71% of what I would have gotten if I could have waited until retirement age. But on the other had, I got Medicare, too. That was the main reason I applied...because no insurance company would cover me with all the chronic illnesses I had and my husband's COBRA was running out and I had to do something. UGH!

Keep trying, don't give up. The lawyer can help and will only take your case if they think they can win. You will be paid from the date they disable you so the back pay can be significant.

Sometimes I think the Drs. they send us to really don't care. They do not do a through exam.

Sorry you got turned down, but I'm glad you're going to a lawyer to fight this nonsense.

I had filed and was turned down, got a lawyer, got turned down again. Then I was scheduled for a hearing. I won! I was never checked out by 'their' drs.

My DH had a lot of health issues, his work put him on STD, w/ the idea of going into LT and they figured by the time that ran out, he would be covered by SSD. I told my atty about my DH and his health issues. He filed for him the 1st time. My DH was sent to 'their' dr. I feared the worst. The dr was wonderful, couldn't understand how my DH had worked for as long as he did. He was ok'ed w/i 6 months.

The funny thing was none of our drs would write that we were disabled. Yet, when we went to our pcp to ask her to fill out DMV form for handicapped parking, she had no problem at all. We both have permanent tags for our cars. Our lawyer just shook his head when we told him.

I don't know if you keep copies of your lab work and tests. If you do, great, it will make it easier to give 'copies' of your copies to the lawyer. If not, he has to order copies from your drs and there will be a small fee that you will pay. But from this point on keep copies of everything you have. Protect yourself.

Just wanted to tell you not to get discouraged. I received my letter from SSDI today and I was approved!!
I filed my claim on February 8, 2013. I feel such a relief but it's almost like I can't believe it. I just wanted to let you know there is hope and that it doesn't always take so long. I wish you all the best of luck with your claims.....I just wanted to give you a little encouragement!!!

I saw my lawyer yesterday. He said there is a 6000 case backlog in the court I'd have to go to and it will take 12-18 months to get a court date. But his assistant was very surprised when she saw everything that was wrong with me and remarked that she couldn't understand why I didn't approved.

Getting any type of loan; e.g. home or car loans, is all about debt to income ratio and your credit report/credit score.

There are many online debt to income calculators....but for the most part, people should never exceed 36% (I've always gone with 30%) for their total monthly debts that include monthly installment payments like a mortgage, car loan, credit card payments, school loans, etc.

So, for example, what a dealership or bank will do when looking at whether you can afford a car loan is this...Let's say someone has a total gross monthly income of $5,000. They multiply $5,000 by .036 or 36% for a total of $1,800. Then they will look at your credit report and add up what your total monthly installment payments are already on things like I mentioned above with mortgage, credit cards, etc.

Let's say you have $1,300 in other monthly obligations, this leaves you $500 a month for a possible car payment. It's important to add in taxes, insurance, and registration to factor in the true payment..

Now...this is what the DEALERSHIP will want you to max out to so you should be figuring out these numbers BEFORE you ever step foot in a car dealership.

You also should know what your credit score is as well as look at your credit report so that you know what type of rate you can get as the lower the credit score, the higher the interest rate.


***Actually, the best way to pay for a car if you are going to do a loan is finance through your bank and walk in with the total amount for the car. This way, you are working backwards with the total amount you can afford which is in your best interest and not letting them work you with a "monthly" amount which is in their best interest..

This same ratio/calculation exists for those looking to buy a home or take on any type of monthly debt.
