On antibiotic cipro for the rest of the week for a long-term UTI. I feel like my body is vibrating with electricity, constantly. Only one day with serious upset stomach symptoms, so far, and the infection seems to be loosening its grip. But, it has done this before, and come back.

This vibration is quite unpleasant, though if I keep moving I feel it less.

Cipro just makes my skin more sensitive. Washcloths on my face feels like wire brushes when I take it.

I have a male friend with fibro who swears cipro caused his onset of the condition. I am just sharing what he told me.

I personally think doctors are too quick to prescribe drugs like Cipro and Levaquin...the truth is, just ten years ago this  class of antibiotic was used to treat things like Anthrax poisoning and the plague.  My doctor writes a script for it for everything.

My husband took it for a severe prostate infection which was warranted but tore a tendon after the third dose.  His skin also was extremely sensitive.  After doing some research, I discovered the FDA has recently put a black box warning on it because of tendon damage...especially in the elderly.  My husband still has pain in his tendon and this happend six months ago.

Just sayin...knowing everyone reacts differently to drugs.

Yeah.. Cipro caused me a mini flare... muscles cramped up and felt funky, tingly.. weird.

The first time I took Cipro, not too bad.

The second time I took Cipro... a little worse..

The third time (after a stubborn UTI) I was shaking and barely able to prevent my shakes.. I had to just stop the meds at that point.

I know for sure that Levaquin is hell in a pill. NEVER take Levaquin. No person with Fibro should EVER touch Levaquin.. its in the same class of drugs as Cipro, but, in my experience, MUCH worse. Almost put me in the psych ward. Nearly 3 days of no sleep, insomnia, and feeling of paranoia. In the warnings it says people with neuro issues or brain conditions shouldn't take Levaquin. I took it pre-FM diagnosis, and so my doc wouldn't listen to me about my concerns about taking it.. I took it and regretted it. I should have trusted my instincts.

Myself09, I know how you feel with the vibrations, mine started about 4 years ago in my toe and now is in my chest, It drives me crazy, my worse fear is for it to go into my head, I just talked to someone who is experiencing it in the head, she said her Dr put her on Xanax, said it helped, so I have already made a Dr apt....

Here are my thoughts. I had MRSA in 2009, and was diagnosed with FMS in 2004. I feel that my fibro got worse after the MRSA episode, when I was on high-powered antibiotics for over a month.

This UTI has been around for over a year, with several attempts to get rid of it. It just keeps coming back.

What if (and I have no medical proof for this) the MRSA left my body more open to infections? What if that, post-MRSA, only the high-powered antibiotics can clear my system?

No proof for this. Just thoughts.

All quinolone antibiotics can damage the Gabaergic system in the brain - the same system that is critical in controlling pain.

Chronic UTI's and prostatitis are usually from pelvic floor muscle disorders and not bacteria. These are common with fibro people because of the autonomic dysregulation.
