This week I had to remind myself that I am disabled and have permission to rest at any time. Even if it means napping or sleeping in. I have been feeling tired and having frequent pain. I realized I wasn't giving myself these opportunities to rest more. I guess I felt guilty when my husband called from work to check in if I was napping. So today he called and ask me what are you doing? I am taking a nap. He took a pause because he hasn't heard that in a long time. This time I didn't feel guilty. I actually enjoyed it. I am going to take care of myself better!

Angel,
Rest, don`t feel guilty because you are not responsible for this painful condition.
I know what you mean. Resting for me means also avoiding all kinds of anxiety, stress and emotional overload.
For a month i`ve been feeling like you- morally and physically. I`ve been doing very few things and try saving my energy for being able to go to work. I don`t want to retire on disability, i`m not ready for this, not yet. So i struggle to save any single drop of energy on behalf of my profession.

I have the same problem. I guess it was the way I was brought up by very strict parents. But I am 57 years old now and can do what I want and I do rest when needed. Good for you! I am proud of you!

Angel, how old are you if you don't mind me asking? And are you getting disability? Because I have been trying to get my disability since 2011. Mine is because of back problems. But now I seem to have fibro. Which I guess could have been around a lot longer than I thought. Because some of my pain goes along with fibro.
Thanks, babyblue

I just joined this forum today and I noticed this right off! I am retired and I often forget that I can just say no. wish I'd done it this week in fact. Must work on saying no...must work on saying no...

Ladies,
Just want to say it is so comforting to speak to people who know what you mean and how you feel.

Great thread, Angel. I couldn't agree more.
Why is it so hard for us to get this through our heads? We really need to listen to our bodies. Just because we look just fine - - - you know the rest!

Baby blue- I am almost 50 in one month. Yes I am on disability. I got my disability 4 years ago with no problem. I had numerious health problems beside fibro. I think fibro was my least of my problems at the time I applied. It has been the best thing for my health not working. I was being hospitalized many times in one year and over hundred times throughout my sickness. I haven't had to go to the hospital since I stop work. My work was killing me.
Baby blue- how many times have you applied for disability?

Good for you!!! I love to hear it when we actually take the time to take care of ourselves - and choose not to feel guilty about
it.
Blessings!

Achey - because we are perfectionists. That's what got us here in the first place, probably. ;)

Thanks for the reminder! I was just sitting here feeling guilty for staying home from church. My wonderful wife could tell I was having a bad morning. She got the kids ready and headed out. Now to do what she would tell be to do. I'm of to take a nap!

Hi Angel, yep this is a great thread...a reminder that we need to pace ourselves and take time for some rest. Fibro can sure be so finicky...it can zap us of our energy at it's will. I used to feel guilty too about
not being able to get things done like I used to. Now it's about
prioritizing. What really needs to get done? I think we are all strong and courageous. We all are learning to take control and live a good life. It is important to be kind to ourselves...no negative self talk. We are strong fibromites :)
Hugs, Robin
