I was at my cousin's home for Christmas dinner yesterday. We always have a wonderful time. She made a beef tenderloin and we all brought the side dishes. I brought a gelatin salad and a broccoli/cauliflower casserole.

Right before we were to eat, I was taking medication and my cousin came to me and asked if I had put mushrooms in my casserole. I hadn't and told her so. As we are eating this wonderful meal, my daughter showed me her fork and asked what was on it. I didn't understand what she was talking about. She then asked if I used Cream of Mushroom soup in the casserole and I did. Well, one of the guest is allergic to mushrooms! I was soooo upset that I started to cry at the dinner table. When my cousin asked me if I had put mushrooms in the casserole I was thinking fresh or canned mushrooms. Mushroom soup never ever entered my mind. It would have if my cousin had said a guest was allergic to mushrooms but she didn't. My daughter won't eat mushrooms but eats casseroles with mushroom soup in it. Anyway, I was devastated.

The woman was at our table and she told me not to worry...that she felt fine. Then to be funny, she grabbed her throat and threw her head back. tongue People started laughing and my cousin's husband said, "Merry Christmas! It has been nice knowing you." tongue My cousin said for me to expect a special Christmas ornament next year....an ornament of an ambulance. I do have a crazy family.

She WAS fine and the evening went smoothly after that. I just can't believe that I was that stupid! My brain was on holiday, too.

Ohhh, i honestly think I would have said no as well!! Fibro or not. I would have thought, just as you, fresh mushrooms or canned. I am so glad the guest was fine and everything worked out! It will be a Christmas to remember.

Awww, Sherrine,

 

I most likely would of said the same. I guess your cousin was on partial holiday as well, or exhausted from hosting? Most important part is that the other guest was not effected by the soup at all. I can totally see me crying, but at least you were able to gather yourself and continue on. I prolly would of had to get up and go into a bedroom and keep crying.

 

It sounds like you still had a wonderful Christmas meal. Hugs!!!

I agree with the others. I think this could easily happen to anyone. And you're a real trooper, Sherrine.

I'm glad it all turned out well, and hope you still enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones. :)

As everyone else said, yep, I would have said the same thing. Heck, I'm lucky to remember what vegetables I cut up and put in an hour ago ;)

But glad it ended well. And that your family has a sense of humor.

Ahhhh......yes... I received an email from my churn specialist today stating that I did not enter a customers information correctly into the system. I replied that I had and requested she check it again. She replied NO YOU DID NOT! So I went to check it and she was right. IT WASN'T THERE! ! I knew I had. But where did it go? Well.........I had entered it under some random customers profile.
So looking like a big Dufus I apologized profusely explained what I did then we both had a good laugh. Tomorrow's forecast? I see fog lots and lots of fog. You know it happens to all of us Sherrine. So glad it turned out well and she was OK. Enjoy your weekend!! Hugs

Thank you for your responses. I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one that would have possibly made this mistake. It was embarrassing but everything worked out fine. And, yes, I had a great time the rest of the evening.

I agree with everyone, I would have thought she meant fresh mushrooms also. I'm glad everything turned out okay and that you have a great time!
