Just came off of hydrocodone for about a month. Now NP is wanting to send me to a pain clinic. Just wondering how you all treat your fibro pain.

i have tried many things over the past year and a bit - the most success I had was amitriptyline i got up to 50mg and it is first line treatment here in UK..it is essentially an anti d, but helps sleep and pain...i really did feel it worked on the neuropathic pain...Unfortunately I have had to come off it as it was causing me other side effects, but might have to go back on in future...

I am about to try baclofen a muscle relaxer, i think you have ones like flexiril in US, which can also help

Failing that magnesium malate capsules and also epsom salts bath (magnesium sulfate) help ease the pain

I also have a magnesium spray to get the pain directly and a wheat bag that I heat up for my neck

There are many others which can help - its a matter of trial and error until you hit on something that works and for me it was amitriptyline (elavil)

I have taken many many medicines over the years and the best thing that I ever found that helped me was Amitriptyline. It has many side effects though, and that is why I had to stop it. I gained a lot of weight, a lot of it was fluid that I could not get rid of. I was on a high dose then. Now years later, I tried it again at a much lower dose, and it didn't have the same effect. I cannot go any higher with the milligram due to the fluid. Just something to look into. I hope you are able to find something that works for you.

Thank You both so much. I can not take any vitamins due to a bladder condition I have. Which is why I came off the magnesium. I am on amitriptyline already. I'm not sure what works or helps me anymore.

I try natural first....heat, rest, bracing, tylenol, muscle rubs, and then tramadol... In that order.

On a daily basis, I try to get in a walk, do gentle stretching throughout the day, take time for meditation, and try to eat healthy. Pacing myself is something I try to do but have not yet mastered.

I also use heat, the microwaveable heating pads and if I have the time will soak in the tub.

When it comes to meds, what works for one might not wotk for another. For my fibro, I take Savella daily and use muscle relaxers as needed.

Keeping busy doing things I enjoy also helps distract pain. Keeping a positive attitude also helps along with being as proactive as possible.

For years I went down the road with heavy narcotics. I became very addicted and dependent on them. I felt like I was in this viscious cycle with it. I finally decided to seek help and get off them. The meds were causing me more pain. I decided I couldn't be without something, so I got on subutex for pain. It has really work great for me. It doesn't take care of all the pain, but enough to function in life.

Staying distracted with things, staying strong spiritually and exercising helps too.

I use Hydrocodone, Gabapentin, and Nortriptyline for my pain. They do help me some...

As far as activity goes, it's a tenuous balancing act between enough movement and enough rest...and each day the game changes, so that what I could do yesterday I might not be able to do today.

I try to eat right (for my own body), drink enough water, and keep a positive outlook as much as possible.

I have used methadone 10mg and it worked great for me plus gave me energy to continue with my job. Now the doctor wants me to go off of it because it is a narcotic and try savella, which I started this week and only taking .5 mg of the methadone. I'm really not very happy with him for doing this because I have been on the methadone for about 4 years and have always only taken the 10 mg, but everyone is freaking out over pain meds. I have to do drug test at the pain clinic but I don't care because I'm not abusing them. I feel if it work don't screw it up. Right???? tongue
