       Hello,I am 45 years old and have crohn's disease as well as fibro. Does anyone have headaches that last for days with the muscle pain and what does your dr prescribe for it?My muscles are so tight in my neck and back and I can feel them spasm and tightening.I am currently om flexeril,tramadol,effexxor xr, remicade, but that doesn't seem to be helping.Any suggestions?

Have you tried TENS unit?

I also listen to Relaxation videos on youtube. David Fairweather has some great ones.

Jersey- sounds like you need a hot tub! Do you take magnesium? That really helped my muscles. I can't take muscle relaxers, so I have to find other sources such as heat, massage and trigger therapy. Seems to be a common area for fibromites spasms. Muscle spasms can be very painful. I have found out in the past the strongest pain meds really don't help spasms.

Hi, Jersey, and welcome to the fibromyalgia forum! I also have Crohn's disease. Mine is under control now, thank God.

Have you tried trigger point therapy? People have trigger points throughout their bodies and when they get inflamed they form knots in the muscles. You can massage these out.

Feel at the base of your skull on each side of your spine. Do you feel a bump or two? You have muscles that run up your skull. I had a knot on each side of my skull and they were tender when I pressed on them. Those are trigger point knots. I pressed as hard as I could stand it, massaged the area, and repeated this several times and then let the area alone for a while. I did this several times a day and those knots got smaller and smaller and they went away. My neck was so much better after doing this. This could possibly help with your headache, also. I don't get headaches so I can't tell you this for sure. There are trigger points that can run along the sides of your neck, too.

I also cured my frozen shoulder by using trigger point therapy. I purchased The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook from Amazon. They let you read a little to see if you are interested in the book. I did that before buying it. It has diagrams that show where the trigger points are for the pain you are having. Much of our pain is referred pain so this book is helpful. For example, I had side pain and saw the trigger points for that type of pain were actually in my back. I used a tennis ball between my back and a wall the "massage" that area.

Maybe this could help you. It sure helps me a lot.

Thank you all for the advice. I do have balled up muscles at the base of my neck that hurt really bad when I push on them. I will try this. There is a hotel the kids and I swim at in the winter that has a hot tub I can go to for relaxation.I am sure it is just tension and balled up muscles.I have a lot of stress in my life which doesn't help either.

I get the headaches and neck tightness, as well as a Crohns flare, and nausea and vomiting.

What changed this was starting SCD. I found a correlation between eating something not SCD and the headaches/nausea, etc.

Sadly, this would/will continue until whatever it was I ate passes through my system. This was how I figured out what my body cannot process.

Have you tried taking a migraine abortive like Imitrex? Some times it will work on these types of headaches too. I get them and that with a pain pill is the only thing that helps me.

My daughter recently had a running injury and we went or a new rehab place and she had a big trigger point knot in her calf. They did a procedure called dry needling. It was kind of like acupuncture on steroids. It got rid of the knot and the pAin in five minutes. The therapist said it was great for the traps. I am thinking of trying next time I get in a bad migraine cycle.

Headaches are the ban of my fibro! As for medications there are soo many and everyone reacts differently to what works. I suggest continuing to work with your dr u til you find the right combo for you. I can't take the old or new generation of SSRI or Seratonine Reuptake Inhibitors so I am stuck with pain meds round the clock.
I believe strongly in relaxation and would try trigger point therapy and warm water soaks or walking in a warm pool. Everything flares me up for a long period of time. This makes it hard to stick with it, but, it is worth it.

A bed buddy and some peppermint oil would help. I find that the moist heat from the bed buddy helps with headaches. I put peppermint oil in a pan of water on the stove and the air gets moist and the peppermint oil opens up the sinuses. Or you can rub it on your temples and forehead.

I sure hope you feel better soon.
