Hi trudylou,
I have used all three types in the past and now have an implanted spinal cord stimulator. The unit should have come with a manual/pamphlet that shows the starting points you want to use for attaching the electrodestr for the different areas you are experiencing the pain. If not, the charts are easy to find on the internet.
In my experience, the adjustment of frequency and intensity are basically the same for all types. If my (fibro)-foggy memory is right, the interferential unit used up the batteries about ten times as fast add the others did.
My non-professional advice would be to use the tens and interferential at high frequency for dulling nerve pain, and use the EMS at lower frequencies (as low as 4hz) to experience a deep tissue massage.
