I know that many of us are chemically sensitive and have to find things that won't hurt us. I have a problem with the floor cleaner my folks use. They mopped the whole house with something new that they love, but for four hours today I was wheezing, watery eyes, nose clogged up. It took two benadryl to calm it down.

I begged them to either not use it again or be prepared to take me to the ER next time. skull

I need some ideas on a hypoallergenic floor cleaner for laminate and vinyl flooring.

I mop my tile floors with white vinegar and hot water. The vinegar acts as a disinfectant. I've been doing this for years since soap leaves a thin layer on the floor that can attract dirt. I just mopped all my tile with it yesterday.

I googled vinyl and laminate flooring and it says it's safe for those floors too. I would check a small area first just to be sure but I sure don't see how vinegar and water could possibly hurt your floors. Plus you should be fine with this since there are no chemicals being used.

You can use vinegar for many things. Hope this helps.

Hear ya on chemical sensitivities! I cannot stand windex.

I use an armstrong floor product , it has a smell but not super strong..and i do not seem to react to it.

I am sure there may be even better ones by now...

My daughter and i were both allergic to a natural hand cleaner...she would get hives from it..now i use method unscented hand soap. All uscented products for laundry..

On a brighter note, will the two benadryl , make you sleep like a baby?

I just use swiffer, it doesn't seem to cause any problems for me personally. I use the wood floor one, it has a light scent that's not overpowering imo. It may not necessarily be the case for others though. Most of the time I don't think I have too many issues except for pollen (which has cleared up a lot the older I've gotten) or if I'm in the candle/smelly stuff section of a store for too long. I think all the different, strong smells is too much for my senses, it gives me a headache.

I have no good suggestions, but do have commiseration. I use a lemon scent Mr. Clean type thing, which doesn't bother me. Also, Murphy's Oil soap has always been a favorite.

But the mildew cleaner in the bathroom makes me quite sick. I used some this weekend, and was feeling ill for some time.

I just use the steam that comes from the Shark floor cleaner. Works beautifully and no chemicals or costly cleaners. Pays for itself quickly.

Great ideas! I'm tempted to get the shark steamer though.

I'm so allergic to many things. If I clean the bathroom I use vinegar water because anything with bleach chokes me up.

By the way I didn't sleep with the benadryl.

Wow joy, thats amazing..if i took two Benadryl..i am certain i would sleep for twenty four hours.

I too am sensitive to many things.. bleach, Lysol as well as most cleansers containing fragrances..

Use wet Swiffer on my tile & laminate flooring (dust & dust mite allergies dictate no carpeting) without any issues. I DO usually 'mop' just before going out to limit exposure.

Use vinegar, baking soda (sometimes add hydrogen peroxiode too) for general cleaning.

Lmj, it's still out of sync but I am falling asleep after being awake 14 hours now. It's just sleeping 5am to 4pm.
